I am so happy to see that I am not the only Ohioan who runs barefoot!! Suddenly, I don't feel so alone .
There's getting to be quite a few. Maybe 10-15? Dayton and Columbus seem to be the most active spots. I think I'm the only one in my county anymore. Welcome!
Welcome Shuffler, yeah there are a few of us. Personally I thought Cinci and up by Cleveland were the most active spots. I've only ever come across 1 other barefooter (barefoot mama)in Columbus area were I often run and race. But in my home county I'm pretty sure it's just me! (Morrow)
Hi 'Shuffler', I am on the east side of Cincinnati. Really there are few bare footers in the area, but many minimalist. VFF's and the like.
Howdy, Matt and Mama! I'm in Columbus, too. Anybody aware of barefooters in Columbus getting together for runs? I run along the Olentangy bike path sometimes, but my favorite place is Highbanks on the mostly-grassy Coyote trail.
I was told there were a few other barefooters in the Columbus Marathon on Sunday. I didn't see any myself, but a friend said she saw a few. Any chance it was anyone here on BRS?
I did not run in the marathon but I'm currently planning to run in the Costume Zoom 5k on Friday (associated with Highball Halloween on High Street). Any chance there may be some Columbus barefooters turning out for that?
No problem with the feet, but calves, quads, abductors, it bands... The Columbus Marathon that I mentioned (my first, and a race report will probably be up fri/sat).
Just wanted to post a quick "hi" to my fellow Ohioan barefoot runners! I am about an hour northeast of Columbus.
Howdy Yvonne... I'm similarly an hour NE of Columbus, but I'm guessing you aren’t around me since there is no one around me I'm near Centerburg, a bit west of Mt Vernon. And this invite goes to anyone, I doubt anyone is close enough or that my crazy work schedule would work out well, but offering that I occasionally run either the Heart of Ohio Trail, or the Kokosing Gap Trail (both long rail trails NE of Columbus) and if anyone wanted to do a group run I'd be up for it sometime.
If I wasn't doing the Flying Pig and routing through Cinci on our May trip I'd try to time a run in with you.. but I go down to Chillicothe (S of Columbus) every summer.. and would be happy to meet someone on the way down for a run (not so sure about on the way back as I'd have to sit in the car stinky the rest of the way!)
Well we'll revisit it when it gets a little closer. I work a crazy 5 week rotation, so my availability is limited, basically every 5 weeks I have 1 week off, plus 1 more weekend off, and some midweek days off as well (main thing to take away is that 3 weekends out of 5 I am working). And being I have limited weekends available I often have many of the summer ones booked with family events, or hiking trips, etc. But if I'm free and it lines up I'd love to run. Also, while a bit further off the highway, the Kokosing Gap Trail is also really good for run/bike or even paddle combos. It follows a river for about half or so of its 13.5 mile paved length, with a few different access points between road, trail, and river, and is a nice paddle for Ohio at least when the water is up. I know the head of the county's park office and even got permission to primitive camp on the river on an island they own two make a 2 day trip out of it a few times. I also race on the same weekend as the Flying Pig. The Capital City Half Marathon is May 3rd and I'm signed up for it, will be my 3rd one. If anyone else isnt already running a race that weekend (seems to be popular weekend!) thats a little closer to Columbus then I suggest it if your up to a half. I'll be running it with a few friends, mainly coworkers, but plan on hanging out for a while and hitting up a restaurant/bar after. I might have been the only barefooter in it last year (not 100% sure) but would be great to have some more barefooters there!
