Here I am once again over in the UK on family business but I have managed to get a few runs squeezed in between the almost continuous rain.
I would not run in bare feet in the area where I am, too slippery and slimy and unhygienic, so I have a pair of Xero runners that have come to my rescue.
They are thin enough to allow me to still run in my barefoot form and not get me locked up for being crazy. I met up with old acquaintance Ron Hill, once the worlds fastest marathon runner and a barefoot runner in his early days. He is getting frail these days so I was glad to meet him for what may be the last time.
I will be back in Adelaide and my favourite running routes next week and I am so looking forward to it.

Holiday running is always the best way to explore.

I just googled Ron Hill, he sounds like an interesting person. 50 years running without missing a day is pretty amazing, apart from all the marathons!

I knew him from may years ago and he was fast, very fast. I ran in a race he organised called The Tour of Tameside. 52 miles in a week that had different running challenges, half marathon, hill race, cross country & canal race. It was a tough race with the total accumulated time determining the winner.
He was one of the running greats along with Gordon Pirie who mentioned years ago that running shoes would ruin runners for and lead to injury.

Ron now has Alzheimers and doesn't run but still gets out to walk with his wife Meg each day. I remember talking to him years ago about barefoot running as he did train and race that way back in the 1960's.
I would run with his son Graham back in the '80's and each time I would go back to the UK I'd go out for a run with him. Unfortunately his knees are hurting him too much these days. I keep pushing him to give barefoot running a try but I think he's over it now.
    Cheers
