I would go if it was not on Leif-Erikson. Running on Wildwood trail from the same location (Germantown Rd) would be much much nicer.

Dan AKA "feet made of steel" doesn't want to run L. Erikson? Didn't hear the horror story but it must have been bad. On that note, I still haven't recovered from a foot bruise that is around 2 months old. Not sure how much I'll be able to run either. :(

I might give this a try, my wife might come too except she wears shoes. I'll probably use sandals.

Jen, it's a big wide fire road with medium (approx 1/4 inch) gravel. As far as gravel fire roads go, it's pretty approachable. It's a really great place to toughen feet once you are no longer challenged by pavement/asphalt. :)

Well...I keep hearing I am going to die on this trail, even in VFFs/huaraches...so...I am still going but I will plan on walking if it is too bad! I am not going very far, I wasn't planning on running more than 3 miles, anyway.

I lived! Didn't convert any shoddies, but there wasa minimalist and barefoot runner there (same person, does both) and I told him he should come run with us some time! Muah-ha-haaa!

    From my blog:

So I ran on Leif Erikson today and I LIVED! I ran in my VFFs, 4.5 miles, in one hour -thanks to a lot of flatness. I ran on the end farthest away from NW Portland, off of Germantown Rd. I can DEFINITELY see why people would not be fond of running barefoot on it. It's not he sharpness of the rocks, it's the shape of them, and the fact many are hidden. The rocks are shaped like mounds, and many are hiding under a layer of mud. Hence, they are just waiting to ram themselves into an unsuspecting arch. This run was with another running group -cuz
