yes having your shoes (sandals are lighter, better) with you is a good option when you still are a barefoot beginner, too many times I went too far away without them and had to go back home with painful feet. after two barefoot years, this dont happen anymore, since I know better my limits snow is still impossible to me when its fresh powder, but the compact one is surprisingly easy when t° are not too cold
