OK, so we are coming to the end of August and we will soon know the winning chapter to have their name emblazoned in lights on the Front Page and get exclusive bragging rights for a week! There has been a terrific response to this competition and it has been great to see the friendly competitive banter going on between chapters.

Please ensure that all of your miles for August are logged on the spreadsheet by midnight on August 31st or they will not get counted! A full report of the winning teams, mileages, star performers, average mileages etc. will be posted next week.

There will be no time for anyone to rest on their laurels however, as here is the link to the spreadsheet for the September competition:

As you should already know, the scoring system has been changed for this month. This month’s competition is somewhat biased towards chapters with lots of members out running but doing a lot less mileage than some of the ‘running machines’ that we have in the BRS J. This competition is for those of you that maybe only do 5km or 10km a week, to encourage you to do those few extra runs.

Every member that does 25km during September will earn 1 point.

Every member that does 50km will earn 3 points.

Any miles done over 50km will not earn any additional points!

Rally your troops by sharing this link with your fellow chapter members. The competition will start at 12:00am UST, September 1, 2014 and finish at 12:00pm UST, September 30, 2014.

As for last month, whenever you do a run, walk or hike in bare feet, huararches or minimalist running shoes, add your username in the top row on the front sheet and your distance in the row of your chapter. (If your chapter is not there already, please add it.) Then when you do additional runs during the month, just update the distance each time. (The two back sheets do all the clever sums needed to calculate the real-time rankings. It is not necessary to enter any data onto these sheets.)

NOTE: There has been a special request that all members use the formula =0+5+5 etc. on the spreadsheet to allows others to see what length and number of runs the top performers are doing.

    Remember ….

As a minimum, going for a run means you have your running gear on and do a run, walk or hike of one mile or more.

If you THINK it doesn’t constitute a run, then it probably isn’t! This competition relies entirely on your honesty.

Any problems with the spreadsheet, let me know.

    Good Luck!

    Paul

In your mileage square Moka. Take a look at other people's mileage tallies. If you click on their box it shows as a =X+Y+Z formula and you can see how many miles each run they did was

Discouraging. As far as Ive seen, Im the only member in CT participating. I hurt my foot early Aug, so had to keep milage low - since it seemed to hurt less with less foot flex.

My only encouragement was that I could keep my running streak alive (over 270 days) and maybe move my GROUP up all by myself. Now, there is no chance. I'll just do my barefoot runs and not log them. Whats the point? Ive already lost due to this change.

Sorry that this month's competition doesn't suit you Jeff. As it says, this month is intended to get more people out running. I'm thinking October's competition might be to see which individual does the most miles in a month. Would that suit better? ;)

Well- Congrats to- what country are you from Paul, U.K? with 14 active members. Congrats to U.K. for winning September. With the most members and new rules to make those with "more members" win, your only competition is Indonesia. NY with your 2 members- good try in Aug, but you also have no shot in Sept.

What I cant figure out, is why UK #1 wasnt enough. With the new rules, you are guaranteed to be #1 in Sept. If you want to make a list that says you are #1, you didnt need to make any changes. All the change does is bring down all the other Chapters that are trying to compete.

As for October. Who knows. But hopefully you will see that any Chapter that has less than 5 members, has a NIL shot of beating your Chapter with an Active 14. And, it wouldnt be hard at all for a chapter with 14 to beat, well, everyone.

I enjoyed thinking about my barefoot miles in KM. I enjoyed the way the spreadsheet - was. In December and Jan, many chapters will become less active, whereby a little 0.62 mile run may be hard to get out and do -I personally have a hard time getting started when my toes are cold.

Maybe this change will encourage a big surge in activity in September, and I appreciate your attempts, even if I cant understand them. It seems that by creating these "point categories" and limiting the #, that you will have many chapters with 0 - 6 points and a few with more.

I dont mind coming in 20th (current rank) in Aug. But I love the CHANCE to get up to 19 or 18. I just dont see that CHANCE in Sept.

Yes, we (the UK) have the biggest team in the August competition, but that's the whole point of all this isn't it Jeff, to get as many Toes on Roads as possible? And with 119 chapter members to call on, yes, New York could easily win the September competition
