    Hi,

I am currently experiencing a throbbing medial heel pain. I have just started to get back into running (about 3 months back) after a year or so off and am only covering 5 minutes on, 3 minutes walk x3 as I was hoping to build up strength in my calves and feet again.

I am flat footed and pronate. More so in my right foot. The pain is in both feet but far worse in my right foot. There is no pain while I am running or directly afterwards but I will wake up in the night and it will be throbbing, this will continue for a day or two. It isn’t really tender to touch but more feels like it is coming from inside my heel. I have never experienced this before despite experimenting with minimalist running for a few years.

I am doing significant mayo facial release and dynamic stretching prior to running.

    Thanks in advance!

If someone told me to do that, I'd eat a sandwich. Maybe you could try miofascial release. :)

I've asked one of our docs to respond. He's pretty busy, but hopefully, we will hear from him soon.

    Buckland,

That's a bit vague for me. There are muscles attached there. They're likely stretched and weak. Strength, not stretching is what most of the body needs. Without having my hands on you to see what muscle it is i can't give any specific recommendations.

I had similarish heel pain for seven months.. I started hydrating better and pain lessened quite a bit. That solution is quite easy to test, when you feel the pain, just drink a liter of water and if pain is still there it probably won't help. Yeah, it helped me pretty much immediatly.

Thanks for the response, would you be able to suggest a best course of action? Just seeing a physio?

Will also hydrate and lay off the mayo! :)

Sport physio or DC. One who runs preferably. I would be wary if they recommend stretching or orthotics. If you can call and ask if they do DNS, FMS, SFMA, or follow McGill or Liebenson. Those are great systems that look at the root of the problem and not just the site of pain.
