Thinking about giving up on BFR. Maybe I should take up ping pong?

Oh, I was thinking. Zap would probably be better at beer pong than ping pong.
SP - You know me so well. ;)

Don't give up...Anything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Don't give up, this forum exists to encourage you to run on. Have a beer too. There... you feel better now, right? :D

Thanks guys. I really need you right now and you're saying all the right things to me. Drink beer. Smoke pot. It will all be good. Now that's what I call encouragement! I feel very encouraged. Seriously though. I wasn't being sarcastic. You guys are awesome. I'm actually having a shot of vodka right now to celebrate my NOT quitting BFR. I'm just going to take a month off and work in some weight training. Maybe see a personal trainer. Get my body to stop bitching at me and start running pain-free again. I think I can do this. Thank you.

Isn't it amazing how subtle

Isn't it amazing how subtle barefoot running is, not much room for error, diametrically opposed to running in shoes where all sorts of sins are forgiven.

It would be interesting if a whole bunch of Kenyan kids were members of the forum they would be amazed at the difficulties we are having. It shows how far away from nature we have moved.

Looks like rest is the thing you are going to need, also, maybe ice is not the right remedy for the tendon. It is a common mistake that people make. Ice is used to stop blood flowing to an injured area in the case of torn blood vessels. It is not good for tendon problems as you want the opposite, you want blood flooding to the area to speed up the healing process.

The tendons are not well served with blood vessels and I find using warm gel packs around the area would speed up the healing. Ultrasound is basically doing the same thing, warming the tissues and increasing blood flow.

Don't get discouraged, I think that in a years time you will be able to look back the state you are in now and say 'wow, look what I went through'

I would say it is only in this last month that I am 'getting it', after starting barefoot running about 15 months ago, I must be a slow learner.

What I did learn though is that when I got tendon problems like you have it is because of the following:

1. You already have a knee problem, you will favour your other leg and this will cause a running imbalance. Let your injuries settle don't push on through them.

2. My tendon pain came when I got too big headed about my barefoot running, kind of like a slap in the face. I had been pushing off with my toes and along came a warning.

3. My heels always touch the ground, concentrating on keeping your heels off the ground puts a lot of strain on the tendon. Not landing on your heels is what we do but this does not mean our heels don't touch the ground, they will, as a secondary action.

I had a bit of tendon tenderness the other day due to my competitive nature, I don't like our shoed bretherend trying to put me in my place by running past me. Earlier in the week I had to outsprint two runners on a stretch of road, that extra speed caused a bit of tenderness the next day. Fine now.

So, take you time, there is no rush. Champion tennis players or golfers get where they are by being persistant, that is the ability we all need.

good luck.

But did it pass?

I think you were thinking about the attempt to make it legal for everyone. No that didn't pass. You still have to go to a doctor and find something to complain about that pot can cure (anxiety, insomnia, stress ect....) and get yourself a card.

That's what I thought.  Prop

That's what I thought. Prop 19 didn't go through, or there would be vending machines, and that just doesn't seem likely.

I was under the impression

I was under the impression the machines were for medicinal prescriptions. Swipe your card, insert your dough, no need to bother the pharmacist dealing the real drugs.

Hang in there Zap! I almost

Hang in there Zap! I almost swore of bf the other day after getting 4 punctures from thorns. Not sure what the point was telling you that...

So sorry to hear, Zap.  Hang

:(

So sorry to hear, Zap. Hang in there! There are some good anti-inflammatory foods (google Mediterranean diet) that might help you out. Gym time is a great idea and you might think about doing some bicycling to keep your aerobic fitness up. Possibility that could aggravate an achilles, though. Maybe you could find a gym with a concept 2 rower.

Also, you might see if there is an Alexander Technique specialist in your area. They might be able to help you with form, if it is an athletic performance oriented specialist www.alexandertechnique.com/

Forget the pot and vodka and start thinking sardines and olive oil shots :).

Zap, DON'T GIVE UP!This

Zap, DON'T GIVE UP!

This growing pains soon shall pass, just take a brake and start all over again.

Dama.  It's just not that

Dama. It's just not that simple. when you have a series of injuries, etc. This is your body speaking to you loud, and clear. It is best to listen, and correct the root of the issue. It sounds like zap has decided to take this step. sure she could rets for a while then go back to BF running. Though if she has some underlying issues within her muscular system, or whatever the iisue is. If she does not deal with it those issues will likely return in time.

Zap. Glad you are deciding to listen to your body at this point. I think weight training will benefit you greatly. Get those feet muscles in some lateral movements. Check lower body for balanced strenght. Just in general get that foundation a solid base. The key is going to be finding workouts you will enjoy, and are not boring. If you plan to try body tribe check out PT Allison. If you can't go to body tribe. Check out other gyms, but ask about shoe policies. If you must wear a shoe I would suggest a VFF sprint. Though some gyms do not allow the open style VFF. Some gyms don't allow VFF period. If you can't make it to body tribe you might also consider emailing Chip for some possibe independt gym options closer to wear you live. If one exists Chip is probably aware of it. Good luck.....

Humboldt - Body Tribe is only about 25 min. away so it might be an option for me. Funny. My brother goes to a gym close by there and apparently knows who Chip and Allison are. Small world! I've got emails out to my "BF people" asking around about professional advice. We'll see what comes back.

Hope you feel better soon! I

Hope you feel better soon! I was injured last fall and it sucked. After the 2 longest weeks of my life keeping off my feet I was fine, though. Just play ping-pong until your legs feel better!

On the other note, we do have bakerys here in Colorado. There's a magazine for afficinados and the ads in it are hillarious. There are cafes and bars with soda made from it, and doctors on staff to get you approved. I have nudged my husband to get some (he gets bad migranes, which is a great excuse to get some) but it makes him paranoid :stare: Lol.
