I would like to use some free (spyware/adware/everythingware) software to take my clips from my camcorder (uses .M2TS file extension) and convert them to something more compatible with everyone else (like .MPanything; not .AVI as those files run quite large), and I would like to be able to edit it to remove the audio bite in the background (sound) and add music (if I like).

I already have several programs but none that are really working well for what I would like to do.

Does anyone know of anything good? And have you used it? And does it have any known bugs or flaws? (Remember, I'm using the BRS's computer (laptop) for this, and if it gets hosed up, then I won't be able to take care of the BRS...for a long time.)

Check out software from Serif, their free versions are quite useful and the pay versions very inexpensive for what you get. I don't have a link but just search Serif Software and you'll find them

also, FreeStudio this a great freeware suite, I've been using it for a couple years. Not sure if it can edit video the way you want, but it's great to have just for the conversion functions (and youtube donwloader): http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/

Thanks, all, I will check them all out.
