    He does seem to have a real bee in his bonnet about barefoot runners. Maybe one bit him when he was a small child?
    Seriously, with that level of vituperation, I suspect (hope) that he is just seeking comments in order to boost his column ranking. It has the over-blown air of the professional troll who spouts emotionally charged, factually inaccurate statements, guaranteed to make people react at a gut level. The more you wind people up, the more trolls join in for the fun-fest, and the comment totals explode.
