I put in an order for the minimalist Thula Thula a few weeks ago. You can check out a review here, http://secondwindbook.blogspot.com/2012/06/russell-moccasin-thula-thula.html.

For me it was pretty much the only option, because they are the only shoemakers that will make a last to fit my foot.

If you have any questions, just email them. They have many more leathers and other options than what is on the website. We had several email exchanges and a phone call before the order. Once they got the order they called and asked for pictures to go to the last maker.

Now I have to wait 9 months or so to get them. I'll post here when I get them

I have an update on my order, so I thought I would just post it here for completeness. It was really hard to find real information when I was doing research. Hopefully this will help someone else on the google machine.

I received an 'Acknowledgement' from Russell itemizing the charges and the date charged (4/1).

    Minimalist Thula Thula $405
    All Leather $17.50
    Special Last $125
    Special Pattern $20
    Shipping $19
    -----------------------------------
    Total $586.50

There is also a ship date, 4/26(!). I have no idea how accurate it is. The order was mailed on 2/4. The last I checked their estimate was 6 months so they are way ahead of schedule. When I get more info, I'll post it.

Those look very cool! Reminds me of the shoes I wore when farming in South Africa. I would get "desert walker" hiking boots from the local farming co-op for less than US$20. Very flat soles with a wide sole especially suited to walking on sand- narrow soles would dig in. I wore these during winter and my feet definitely got wider during winter times. I walked at least 12km a day during work through vineyards and orchards and I always found the shoes comfortable.
Trying to find a link but not succeeding. Googling "veldskoen" gives you some idea but hardly any drop or soles. When I was younger I used to wear a basic 3 hole veldskoen with no socks and after a week that leather molded to your foot so well you could whistle in the morning and they would come jump on your feet. LOL So comfortable! And old styles had zero drop. But after some comments of wearing poor mans shoes, I stupidly switched over to trail runners. Some of the older generation farmers only wore shoes to church and the bank manager! Right through freezing winters and 40C+ summer days. Goat head thorns and acacia thorns did not bother these guys one bit. Seriously hardcore!
