My aunt, who has been a runner and triathlete my whole life, got me the book "Running on Empty" by Marshal Ulrich for my birthday here recently. Im only about 50 or so pages in, but so far its a really good read!

Its about Marshal Ulrich's trans-continental run from Cali to New York and it actually breaks it down to his day to day struggles. Very interesting book, and since Marshal is not only the main character, but also the author, I had imagined him to paint himself in some kind of falsity. But he actually comes across as being very honest and sincere and pretty much admits to having been a piece of shat throughout alot of his adulthood struggles.

Anywho, its a good read! Especially if your interested in Ultra running, mountain climbing, crazy people, or running.

It's a cool book, I can't

It's a cool book, I can't even imagine running 40 miles a day across the US. He lives back in the place I call home and I used to see him out running a lot. I can tell you that the race across America was unfortunately not very friendly to his health. I really think he is right about how extreme challenges take years away from your life.

Just bought this book

Just bought this book yesterday on the Kindle and was planning on reading some today.

Good to hear it was a good investment

Would have appreciated a spoiler alert on that review

Sorry. I didn't catch any spoilers while reading through it. I just added a note to my previous post for future readers.

Lava, its a pretty

Lava, its a pretty predictable book. What I like about it is that it goes alot into the psyche of Marshall (and other ultra runners) and its pretty interesting. Plus everyone knows that Charlie is a douche bag.

I should have got that. I

I should have got that. I started reading Run to Overcome and it is basically MEB kissing his own ass.

On the topic of Meb...So how

On the topic of Meb...

So how does a guy run a 2:09 Marathon with a heel strike? This video just seems to disreguard form. Maybe I am missing something

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpDnb182qqk

I guess the deal is that he is moving so fast that by the time he has any weight on his feet he is already in a midfoot stance and pushing off again. Amazing runner with a seemingly massive ego. And probably well deserved. Fun to watch him run and lots of good vidios of his form.

I would bet Meb isnt heel

I would bet Meb isnt heel striking in the traditional sense. Id imagine his weight lands more midfoot, with the heel making light contact first and instead of applying a braking action, his weight just rolls through to a more mid foot strike.

Back on topic, I just finished "Running on Empty" and am about to write a quick review on it on my blog.
