So my body runs a little hot. If it is more than 40°F I can't handle wearing a shirt.
    Easy Solution: Go Shirtless
But what about running shorts? What seems to work for everyone else? I was going to start looking into bamboo, but wasn't sure how well it would work.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

I'm a big fan of board shorts, but I just wear any old thing. I can't imagine your shorts will make any difference if you're running shirtless.

I have one bamboo tank top, and I love it for summer. It's very breathable. It's almost as soft as cotton, and it doesn't chafe.

I don't have experience with bamboo shorts, though.

Brooks Infinity IIIs! A bit pricey, but it doesn't get any lighter and more comfortable. Not the best choice if you're a modest, full-coverage-to-the-knee kinda guy.

The problem with bamboo is that it's slow drying. To be honest I don't think it's a good material to train in.

I would go with any brand of running shorts that has the features I want. I want a zipped small pocket in the middle back for keys for training. I don't run races but I would probably go as minimalistic as possible. No pockets, maybe net on the outsides of the legs.

Well...going shortless tends to be frowned upon unless you have an alternative way to cover up.
I got my first pair of actual running shorts from local running shop here and am quite surprised. Very breathable, very light, one small convenient pocket. Couldn't ask for a better pair of shorts.....granted they were pricy (for me at least....I think they were 30....not used to spending that kind of money on a pair of shorts), but I will admit they are night and day from what I was wearing...

Until last summer I was something of an anti-hi-tech kinda guy, wearing an old pair of Everlast shorts for my runs. But I caved, and now I alternate between

    Brooks Rogue Runner III Shorts
    and
Brooks Men's 5-Inch Essential Run Short

Both are pricey but light, very comfortable, and you can wear them into the shower, rinse them out, and have them ready to go for your next run. The feeling is very close to running shortless, without Zetti's being frowned upon, which may be caused by something else in any case.

I myself am partial to the Champion Gear brand running shorts that the Target stores carry. I like the 9" inseam shorts.

I can't find them locally anymore. I bought these shorts probably 3-4 years ago and they are having some blow outs and need to be replaced...

I have 4 pairs of the 7 inch target c9 shorts. They are awesome. I have a fancy-schmancy pair of brooks shorts for long runs and races because they are a.) shorter, b.) lighter, c.) less chafey and fourthly they have pockets for my inhaler and gu/shotbloks/whatever gogo juice I am using on those runs.

This sounds like the route I will take. I am working towards a 1/2 by the end of the summer, so once I really start having trouble I will pick up a pair of the Brooks shorts.

I use the infinity notch. They're a 5 inch inseam with a compression short style mesh liner. Low chafage on long runs, and the two holster pockets hold small necessities nicely.
