Anyone in the Rochester area? I know there are barefooters here, but I have yet to meet them.

I am new to barefooting. I started Thanksgiving on the treadmill. I now do one mile most every day outside (at the end of my 4-6 mile run) barefoot if possible or with my socks on if it is extremely cold. I carry my shoes in case of emergency.

I'm hoping to do my first barefoot 5k in a few weeks weather permitting.

    Thanks TJ  I really

Thanks TJ I really appreciate this site. I am trying to avoid the temptation to go too far, just concentrating on tecnique. I sent for some TP EVOs however, I cannot give up my heavy street shoes yet, as I am training for Boston and there is simply not enough time to become a barefoot marathoner.

    Thanks for your encouragement.

Well after you get Boston out

Well after you get Boston out of the way, you will be able to concentrate more on transitioning to barefoot and/or minimal. Congrats on Boston and good luck there!

Back in 2005 there was a group of barefoot runners next to us waiting for the start of the Boston Marathon. I don't know who they were, but they made it sound like no big deal. My friends and I were very impressed, we still mention it now and then on our runs. Any idea who they could have been?

Okay, Rick is showing up at the 2005 Boston Marathon finishing in 3:52:38 at Athlinks.com, so that might have been him, but for some reason, Ken Bob's records aren't coming up. He may have them hidden though.

I searched the 2005 Boston Marathon Race Results and found Ken Bob. He finished in 4:20:41.

I don't know if you are still in Rochester, but I live in Rochester as well. I'm just starting out with BFing and trying to get my legs and lungs in shape. Just thought I would let you know there is another Rochesterian here!

Hi, thanks for the note. I live in Spencerport. There are a few BFRs in the Rochester area. The only one I have talked to is Jim K. He lives on the east side. Jim ran the Rochester Marathon BF. I run on the canal path with shod friends on Saturdays. We run 8:30 to 9:00 min pace 5-15 miles. I usually wear shoes for part of the longer runs. Let me know if you want to join us. I also run BF on the track at Roberts Wesleyan. Last week I did my first BF trail run at Black Creek, it felt great.
Are you just beginning BF? Have you been running long shod? Let me know if you want to do a run together. Good luck with the transition.
    Pete

Do you run with, DNEChris, Pete? Are you near New York City?

New York city is about 6 hours drive from Rochester. I hope to go down there for one of their BF races.

Ha! I live in "Ogden" (right around the corner from Rohrbach's) and graduated from Roberts. I am just starting out running BF. I have a pretty chronic case of shin splints that I am trying to sort out. Perhaps once I get those damn shins taken care of I will actually be able to run.

JP, we are neighbors. Sorry about the shins. I had the same problem when I ran shod. I have a simple exercise with a Thera Band which helped a lot, however, since I've been running BF I have not had any shin problems.
How do I send you a message without making it public? I would like to get together to talk BF. Maybe at Rohrbachs.

OK, the thread is a little old, but I'll be at Letchworth again this year - Aug 23-25 and there are 3 members near there. How about a trail run some morning, oh, in the 5 mile range? I'll be at Highbanks and we can run South for a while (an hour?) (I'm not fast) then come back on the road. I'm going to do it barefoot like I did last year. Company would be welcome.

Thanks Lee, I'm not sure if we will be in town then. I'll let you know when it gets closer.
