If you live in a place that has to deal with ice on roads, you might want to wait for some rains before running barefoot on the road. Depending on the source of the fluid, it could contain radium, or other nasty chemicals. (Scientific American)

Now, whether radium can be absorbed through the soles of the feet, I have no idea. But it's worth considering. Happy I live in California. Of course, since asphault is a petroleum product anyway, it's hard to say how safe any paved road really is to long-term chronic exposure.

In my experience, deicing materials are hellish no matter what. Even plain grit / gravel is what makes spring BF so character building for me. Waiting for the white powder to be washed off and out of the roads makes great sense.
