Protecting the TOP of your feet from spikes at a track

At some point I plan to do a track session (too much of a beginner to do that right now; that's an as I aside).

It has pointed out that this could be risky if others are wearing spikes.

What could be useful is some kind of contraption that protects the TOP of your feet from spikes but allows the soles of your feet to be bare.

Any ideas?

One idea I had is to glue cotton wall and paper to the top of your feet.

How many times someone stepped on your shoes with spikes before? I bet its 0.

Indeed 0! Maybe I'm worrying unnecessarily.

What's really silly is this argument I had with the gym. They said you have wear 'suitable footwear in case something falls on your feet. I said 'what could fall on my feet, a loose lightbulb??'. They said 'we previously had people wanting to wear flipflops'. No comparison between flipflops and bare feet.

When I thought about it later, real reason was in case you lifted weights and dropped a weight on your foot. In that case trainers would provide very limited protection!

Do you have to run on the same track when spiked runners are on the track?

I see. Tell them to run in the lane(s) farthest from you. Ha!

I'm not a track runner, but I've had mates that are - I thought the usual spike related injuries were from spikes hitting you in the shins rather than the feet?

Maybe if somebody asks you if you are worried about spikes you should ask why they aren't wearing greaves? :)
