It's been a long, hot summer, but I've been so overwhelmed by the response from supporters just like you, coming together to help protect our most vulnerable species and to help restore the habitats we love.

For the first time this fire season, all fires have been contained. It has been a long and hard fight for our volunteer rural firefighters, but the work they've done has been exceptional.

Your recent gift during this difficult season has meant that we've been able to so far deploy over AUD$2 million to help support vets and wildlife carers, perform rapid habitat assessments and deploy food drops around the country.

Today I wanted to update you with what your funds have recently supported. Here’s how you've helped:

You've helped provide medical equipment to wildlife hospitals

Your support has allowed us to provide assistance to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Tasmania. Your generous gift has allowed the team to purchase an endoscope which will be used to help assess injured wildlife, including bushfire victims. This is an important piece of equipment that will help determine the extent of the injuries sustained.

You've helped assist wildlife carers to rehabilitate animals like Annie

Annie the koala was found near Mallacoota in Victoria, one of the worst hit areas during this bushfire season. Annie was found suffering from burns to her paws and was taken to the Mallacoota triage centre for treatment. Annie was then flown to Melbourne Zoo where she has been ever since, recovering and receiving treatment.

Your support has helped provide wildlife carers with funding to continue to treat and rehabilitate wildlife just like Annie. You have helped to action quick veterinary assessment and treatment. Thank you.

Watch her recovery here.

You've helped fund helicopter food drops

Your support has allowed tens of thousands of sweet potatoes and carrots to be flown by helicopter into NSW National Parks through a partnership with Woolworths, Foodbank and WWF-Australia. This collaborative effort, which couldn't have been made possible without you, is expected to sustain specific endangered species in bushfire-affected areas.

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, we can help our native species that are struggling without access to their natural food and water resources.

We will be deploying more food drops later this week. Stay tuned for some exciting photos from the field!

You're helping perform rapid species assessments through innovative technology

Your support is allowing us to conduct rapid threatened species assessments within fire-affected areas through the use of drones to determine which species have been lost. They will also tell us which species require urgent recovery interventions and which species, once believed to be common, are now likely to be listed as vulnerable, threatened or endangered.
