Hello everyone. Here's my short story:
I'm 61years old and started running last fall after losing 70lbs. I've run several 5 and 10k races this year and even managed a 3rd in my ag, I guess the real runners didn't show up that day. My pr for a 5k is 26:28 but now I'm focusing on the longer runs a bit slower. With all my nice running shoes I kept developing injuries so I switched to VFFs a couple of months ago and running injury free. My longest run was last week - 12.3 miles in my Komodo LS's in 2:15:04 slow and steady.

    Next races:
    Dunstable 5k 10/2
    Bay State 1/2m 10/16

Thanks for reading and looking forward to spending time on the forums.

Also a 26:28 5 km is a pretty good time. I am 21 years your junior and my my best 5 km is just under 25 minutes. ;-)

    MaguyVER:This is a great

    MaguyVER:

This is a great story - you've clearly put a lot of thought and effort into getting yourself healthy. I think if you ever talk yourself into the wild and crazy step of going fully barefoot, you'll be hooked. It's not for everyone, and it's not for all the time (although there are those here who will try to convince you differently), but it's a wonderful thing.

    Welcome, congratulations, and enjoy!

    Thanks Phil,

One day I came home from my unhappy cardioligist and said to myself, "There is no tomorrow, it will never come."

I got right on my spin bike and elliptical and continued to do from 1 - 4 hours per day. Up at 3am and again a 6pm. My motto became, "You have to want it bad!" Last year my two mid 40 sisters-in-law started running and one lost over 80lbs. They entered their first 5k and I thought, "I want do that" and ran my first race ever Super Bowl Sunday. Now the three of us are running pals, one fast and the other one runs my pace so two of us can be seen finishing together, neither of us two will leave the other behind no matter what race including the BAA 10k in June.

Barefoot, you never know. I read a Branca sandle review on Birthdayshoes.com - mine come today so I guess I'll have to try bare at somepoint.

Sorry for rambling on but I really enjoy this thing called running.

    Guy

    Welcome MAGuy.  I'm another

Welcome MAGuy. I'm another one who started last year, though I waited until this summer to lose any weight. I love this running business, too.

I had a wonderful run when I was up in MA, near Lenox, this summer on holiday. You've got some beautiful country up there!

    Enjoy!
