HELLO CONNECTICUT ! I am a fairly new runner. I was doing the TM on and off for years, but did my first 5K Aug 2012 and only started doing some runs on the roads a little before that. For the past 6 weeks I have been doing some barefoot running. I "peaked" around week 4 with 9 miles unshod that week, but my feet took a beating. This week I eased back to 6 miles, but 5K was a race! Yep. I did the GE Petit Road Race in Plainville unshod. It was my first. Pretty cool getting those looks and comments. All in all, it went well. Paced about 8:50 and my best (shod) so far is 8:19, so Im closing that gap. My form isnt that great, I guess, because I still get blisters almost every run. I am constantly thinking about form even on my shod runs. I knew about the Ken Bob appearance at Fleet Feet but wasnt able to get out of work to go. And I was only about 10% into his book at the time. Well- Thanks for setting up the meeting place. I look forward to seeing you guys around.
Nine miles barefoot in four weeks?! That's quite a lot. Sounds like you are fine though and working out the kinks. The blisters will pass as you learn to adapt and correct your form. Welcome to the BRS! Say hello, Connecticut!
Hey Jeff, Where do you do your training runs? I'm in Suffield, but do most of my running in Manchester and Bolton. mike
Hi - I do some group runs out of Pies and Pints in Middlebury CT. I do most of my runs in the Canton/Avon/Farmington area. I just did the Canton Lobster Loop 5K yesterday. GUN time was 25:42, for 8:16 but thats tieing my PR and not accounting for the delay at the start. Unofficially, Im calling my new PR 8:14. Great run, great weather. Since my last post, I have closed that gap between shod and unshod, but I havent done a shod race in 2 months now. But Im definitely getting BF stronger. Gotta run. DW took kids out to see me run. Loved the support! She took a video of me running out, and took a couple snaps on the way back. Getting my Go Pro later today and maybe I change her phone settings before she comes out for next race to take a better photo... but happy to have ONE nice photo of my BF running progress. This is about week 10.
