I have had 0 mileage for a couple months now, and I am having trouble getting motivated now for some reason... anyone have any advice on motivating myself?

    Call a running buddy.

Run with a dog; if you don't have a dog, borrow one from a friend who does.

Are you wanting to lose weight? That's a motivator in itself.

Remind yourself how good it feels once you've completed a run.

Tell yourself that if you complete a number of runs, you will reward yourself in some way.

If I think of any others, I will post back.

In the meantime, "Just Do It!" as Nike would say. I would say, "Just Do It Barefoot!" :barefoot:

Yes I myself am always barefoot even when it snows, but I thank you for advice and I have thought of reading this book again for motivation: The Barefoot Running Book by Jason Robillard . I had forgotten about the book sitting on the shelf.

Jason is a founder of the BRS. He helped me to get this going along with some other friends. He's a good guy with great advice. His book is definitely worth reading again.

Yeah I have read it 5 or 6 times over the past few years, and I have had 3 other people read it, and it has helped us all. I almost feel like I know him with the way he writes and lets you into this part of his life

I'm with you! At one point, I was swimming three times a week, running two to three times a week, and only taking a day off because I knew it was sensible. Now the pools are closed and I'm finding it hard to get running.

Here are two things that helped me to start again (very gently) this week.

One was "60 seconds of something". The idea is that even if you only do 60 seconds of exercise a day, it's better than nothing, and you can feel great about yourself. Eventually 60 seconds isn't enough, and you want to do more. I did some treadmill hill climbing with a tiny bit of running and it felt nice.

Finding the right time. I like to exercise at midday. I am motivated, energetic, and it makes a good break at work so I go back refreshed. Lockdown has imprisoned me so that I can't go and run along the river any more. In the evenings I'm too tired to do anything. So I tried the mornings. It's harder than midday, but it's better than the evening.

Try posting here if you do manage to do something. Everyone will cheer you on, I promise.

Yeah I've been working out, and I just started back up on yoga yesterday and I feel good. I'm have the plan to go longboarding with my kids tomorrow, it's just difficult with the chill in the air where I'm at to feel like going out you know? Anyways I want to get back in to the active lifestyle that I used to be in...all barefoot of course :barefoot:

    Hurrah! Well done you!
The only exercise I did today was to open a bottle of wine to celebrate the weekend. Ooops. :(

I generally have to set my alarm early and just force myself to get up and get out and run. It's not always easy, but it is always a great feeling when you get back ready to take on the rest of the day... -ends up being addictive I find...

Sign up for a race you’re not ready to do so you have to train for it.
