3 mile run today. Have been laying off most of this week due to a minor injury to my left ankle. It was tender and swollen for a couple of days. Not sure even how or exactly when I injured it. Anyway the layoff must have helped because today's run felt great. No swelling afterwards. Run on warriors!
I got an easy 6.6 mile run in on Monday then working too late Tuesday-Thur didn't get any runs in but I did loosen the legs up Thursday night after work on the bike rollers for 10 miles. Friday I got out early and hit the trail across the street for a modest 6 mile run. It was right around freezing but windy and the 10F overnight low left the ground temps pretty cold. I was on the verge of numbness the first couple miles but stayed on the ok side of it and had a good run. Today up to 50F hope to get out this afternoon with Yvonne, we'll see in a little bit.
Not a particularly productive week for me running wise. It's been pretty cold where I am so I stuck to sessions in the gym instead -bike and x-trainer. But I did manage to finish off my last session this morning on a treadmill set at full tilt for a barefoot walking hill climb -just 3km, but it was a good way to conclude. (treadmill feels a little strange underfoot -you can almost feel the runner/roller mechanism through the belt. Not sure if that's normal or if the one I used is maybe just a bit worn out...).
My treadmill just has a sprung flat smooth surface under the belt, only rollers are at the drive end and the belt tension end, belt slides over the smooth surface with a tiny bit of oil needed occasionally. I was hoping for another run yesterday after my ride but my left foot isn't happy. Bit of soreness at the 5th metatarsal/cuboid joint so giving the running a rest until it feels better, certainly not something i want to be pushing through. Annoying because my running was really going well at last, but hopefully stopping before it gets too bad should allow it to heal quickly - fingers crossed.
Ended up getting a trail run in with @Yvonne yesterday. First trail run I've done in a long time (last summer?). And lots of hills! ~7.75 miles I wanted to run again today but ended up having things to do in the afternoon plus 40mph wind was not enticing. So that puts my week at 3 runs and 20.4 miles plus 10 miles on the bike. No long run, hope to day that in the next few days and maybe have a better week next week. Was a nice trail run. Unseasonably warm 50F right after getting a few inches of snow a couple days ago left the place pretty muddy! It was worse than appears but this is the kind of mud that turns to thin dust when it dries, I got into some more mud right near the end so mine were a bit more muddy for the pic.
Oh no thats just the parking lot we're standing a couple steps from the car door there. Plenty of rocks and roots and we both picked up a couple thorns on the way but only one small stretch of man - dumped gravel. I can walk on gravel like that but I can't run on it. Yvonne is a bit tougher than I in that aspect though!
-Guessing the treadmills are just different designs (the one I was on is a technogym brand I think) -yours sounds quite nice for barefoot work... Hope the foot heals up ok...
I only had about 15 or 20 minutes at home today to squeeze in a workout so I tried barefoot jump roping. Turned out to be a pretty good workout. I got up to 85 continuous reps. Lol.
Was still taking it easy last week, letting my backache heal. I finally got in one 12-mile run in the Xero-shoes.That night there was a lot of melting, salty snow and salt on the ground.
Great 3 mile run today. 45°, overcast, recently rained earlier this morning. Love running through the occasional puddles of water.
