    Am I the first?

14.2K run at 8 deg C yesterday. 8K in bare feet. 6.2K in Sockwa. Half/half tarmac and sand.

Longest run for yonks. Feeling it in the calves today, and a blister on my middle toe. My feet never really warmed up :(

    You are not alone Paul!
About 32, all min-shod, miles so far this week. There's snow on the ground but it's too old for enjoyable skiing :(

I've been averaging 5-6 miles jogging every day for the last two weeks but not in my running gear, just trips out shopping for fresh veggies with my backpack.
I want to get back out for a long run, but for now I'm just keeping a base fitness level ticking over until the first signs of spring starts showing.

Jealousy of, and curiosity about, you cold weather runners overcame my fear of frostbite and cold. After a red eye to NYC on Tuesday night, I found myself in 28 degree Queens but there was almost no wind yesterday, Wednesday. Running opportunity?? I started out in my NB Minimus and warmed up with 3.5 miles. Then shucked my shoes under a park bench and ran around the HS athletic field six times for another 2.5 miles barefoot. I basically stayed out of the snow. Passersby and people waiting for buses gave me the my interesting stares. I felt pretty good generally. (Would I have noticed if any toes fell off??). When I went to retrieve my shoes (luckily they were still there) I used a bit of snow to clean off any salt. That might have been a mistake?? Boy did my feet feel cold afterwards! Anyway, it took a couple hours before feeling went back into my toes. Other than my usual leg and ankle stiffness, I think I am none-the-worse for the experience. Nothing has turned blue or fallen off. I am not sure I will try it again before heading back to CA tomorrow. image.jpg

You're a braver man than I (Gunga Din)!

Most of the reason I run in min-shoes through the winter is that I am continually held up by lights and traffic, for anything up to a minute 10 to 15 times, during my commute. Having run it a few times over the years at just below freezing I've decided that warm feet are preferable to discomfort for a few hours after each run!

    Brrrrrrrr.
Maybe you will enjoy CA that much more now, eh?
Looks like you managed one for your own personal bragging rights, in any case.
My personal minimum for bf on sidewalk is more like 45-50, so more power to ya

I was careful to stay on one block with clean sidewalks! It's was pretty dry too. BRRRR. I shiver just thinking about it.

It is definitely a cushy life for a barefoot runner to live in CA if you want a little temperature variety. I did enjoy the run so it counts for a bit more than bragging rights!

I had a nice 5 mile run to work this morning at about -17C. Comfortably warm the whole way down but not running hard enough to be aware of sweating.

Haven't been reporting lately, but still running, I needed to adjust my timing though, as I now work in the city.

So far about 30km/18.6mi, and the weather starts to get a little bit cooler (even though it is still very muggy).

March-June (and September-December) is the nicest time for running.

Soon the autumn trail run series will start again, and I hope to do one or two of these.

No selfy - but there was a friendly security guard at the store door.

Picture a little fuzzy as my phone was close to frozen. Also I feel a little like Longboard as I can't figure why the thumbnail came out sideways.

I put in 27 miles this week. 22 were barefoot. 5 were in Lunas. Swam every day again, plus put in a bit more spin bike time, including a mini triathlon on Thursday of a 10 minute swim, 60 minute bike, and 2 mile run with hills. Then, tonight we went dancing and I'm pretty sure my floor time was close to 2 hours. Several differnt ladies came up at various times to express how impressed they were with my dancing and stamina, but my "favorite" are the 2 gals who asked "what I was taking," and when I answered that I exercise consistently, they said, "oh, well, you have an athletic build." Hmm. I wonder how that happened.

Total of 6.4km for me this week -split into two sessions (2.4k Thursday, 4k this morning).
Felt good today again, even though it was cold. Feet had warmed up really nicely by the end.

Ran just 4x this week, missing 1 day because of sloppy roads and missing 2 days because of hellish wind and cold. But that was enough to give 30.8 miles. Ran 6.55 miles on the fast easy side in 57:58, then ran a slow easy 10.1 miles at around 9:55 pace, ran 5.6 miles yesterday 48:48.

Then I had today which tells me I've got a running problem. I was almost buggered enough to say hack it and not bother today. Those miles yesterday were on the fast side, just before the snow came, the snow that turned into a sloppy heavy mess that took a good while this morning to clear from the driveway. But it kept warming up, feeling positively toasty when it reached 40 degrees, so out I went in the Xeros onto the roads streaming with puddles, thinking maybe at least do a few miles. Then I get to thinking maybe I'll do 4. Then I thought maybe I'll do 5. Maybe a little over 6. 6.55 maybe. Hrrm, how about 7? You know there's always 8. Then finally I turned it in for home and came in with 8.5 miles. in 1:20:47.

Don't know what will happen tomorrow. All I know is they're predicting it to be the coldest birthday I can ever remember.
