I had time, motivation, and decent weather this morning. Legs also felt real good, so I chugged out 10.5 miles. I ended up running the last 5 miles kinda fast and ended up running the whole distance in 1:35:16, about 9:06 pace overall. Scary. I was using the Xeros today and was floating down a hill during the 7th mile when a car coming up behind me slowed down beside me. The driver rolled down her window, and we had a brief 30 second conversation or so about my unusual footwear. Got the almost always asked question, "Doesn't that hurt?" and I said no that it doesn't hurt. Forgot to add that if it hurts, you aren't going to do it! But she actually seemed open to the idea that a person could run like I was doing and enjoy it. She said she was a runner too and that she might have to look into the idea. I said, "You can always consider it." That kind of took me out some of the zen state I had going at the time, but I quickly got it back and was just cranking out those last miles . Also had my first week of more than 40 miles last week. I'm already up to 190 miles for the year. Last year I didn't reach that until sometime early in March.
Yes, it is, stranger! Of course not every run is going to feel so good, but when they happen, take'em.
Yep, need to appreciate the good runs, so when a bad run comes your way, the good ones carry you thru. Too much work on my side of the world-just too many sick people to keep up with medical equipment.
You know what they say, all work and no running makes Dama a dull hummingbird. I hope the work eases back some for you.
A gentle trot to work this morning on about 1/4" of frozen, unconsolidated, rain drops. I saw 5 other runners in my 5 miles - I think I normally see topside of 200 each morning. This was a day for the dedicated!
I'm not surprised it was icy up your way. Down here it was just, just warm enough to not form ice, except for that patch that almost took me out on the step going into the house after I was done.
No ice here, and plenty of runners ! A nice and slow 14km/8.7mi. While it is getting cooler, we still have around 22-23C/72F in the morning. But no complaint here !
2.6 km last saturday and 3.46 km today on my parents' dreadmill otherwise known as "overpriced cloth hanger"... Can't wait 'til barefoot season!
So glad that the love is mutual and the only thing that's going to stop me from running is a casket-ha! Josh, don't you have a indoor running track? my winter running is done on the indoor track and on the mill. So, I had 10.5 miles last night.
Yesterday I swam 35 minutes without stopping. I guess I'm almost getting to where I could consider training for an Olympic distance tri, except I'm not sure I can sit on a bike that long! Today, I ran 6 miles, every mile faster than the last, except for mile 6 being about the same as mile 5, but since mile 5 was about 30 seconds faster than mile 4, that's okay. I guess I just kept feeling looser and looser and that made me faster. But this evening a cold virus has hit me, so I am miffed. I also got in a 10 minute swim today, which puts me at 10 days in a row swimming.
Dragged myself out a little bit earlier on Monday for a 6.3 mile, round trip jog to/from and around Lake Merritt. There were a few wet patches here and there from the bit of rain we had. We need more if anyone can send some this way. Added a mile this morning on the way to the gym but walked home afterwards, all bare footed.
No we don't have an indoor running track. In fact, I didn't even know indoor running tracks existed! Here, you have two options : 1- dreadmill 2-go running outside on compact snow at -30C with 10 extra pounds of clothes on
That's too bad about the cold virus, I hope it doesn't take you down now that your exercise routine seems to be going real well. Nice run, I just can't dragged myself to do morning runs. Well poo if you don't have indoor running tracks then you're living in the wrong country-move to Iowa
I ran both my days off this week, Tuesday and Wednesday. It was warm for the season and I decided to face the grit once again. At least the roads were dry. Found out one of the roads past the next intersection was relatively grit free. Getting there, even though only a mile, was miserable. 6 miles. Wednesday I tried the same but my feet were especially tender, the salt and punishment of the previous day must have taken a toll. Cut it a bit short and gave up at 5.2 miles. Now I'm on dayshift Thur-Sun so probably wont get another run until next week. Just 11.2 miles for the week. Hopefully I get some stairs in at work over the weekend. Would be nice if I could hit 30 consistently! I've only been able to manage that once since winter came around.
That may have been the shortest I've been ill from a cold in my life. Two days and I am basically over it. Other people in the family had it, so I don't think I'm imagining things, but this time around I was not the main victim for a change. So, I am happy to say I have been able to keep up with my exercise routine so far this week, Dama! Wednesday it was 10 minute swim followed by 60 minutes on the spin bike next to hubby who wanted me to watch youtube videos of hydroponics with him now that we can get youtube on the Roku. Thursday (today), I ran a relaxed 6 miles with the doggy, then got in my 10 minute swim. The weather has been a lovely dry 40-50's F here lately, so great barefoot running conditions.
