    afternoon
: 1hr ~45 min in the pool, about the first 45 min of which was spent getting kids to remember how to do laps, getting my son to learn bilateral breathing, doing "quick" laps in between to stay warm.
    evening:
8 mi bike ride before dinner

I have good intentions about starting my super early morning runs, tomorrow, maybe even.........................maybe......................

11 gentle miles, with 2 friends, on a beautiful, sunny, dry morning at a very comfortable, but untypical for mid-August, 19C/66F.
They were going on, shod, to run 14 but I had a big honey-do list to start on :(

2 hour walk on my soon-to-be fall running path with the spousal unit! Wore my Brancas on the right foot and my Lunas on the left foot, to balance out my hip imbalance -lol. It works! What did not work out so well was the (brace yourself for migangeloish-TMI) :p was the extraneous use of the bushes thanks to a breakfast involving a disasterous combination of food on an empty stomach -coffee, fried oysters, blue cheese dressing and dessert with something dairyish in it... :yuck: Good thing for maple leaves!

A nice long walk with my DH and his Achilles<g>, which was a bit better despite having been walking round Edinburgh cobbles with it visiting DD who is working at the festival. He's not up to running on it though.

2.5 mi early in the rain. Splashed some puddles. No sign of wild life.

Been taking it easy some the past 2 days, although I did split a good bit of wood on Saturday.

Being barefoot, I've noticed the oak trees are starting to drop some acorns. When I was walking along my road, I would take the moment to pick the ones up that had fallen on there and toss them to the side. I don't think I want to hit one of those while running.

    about 40 min weights, gym
lunchtime swim, about an hour. had to be gentle on my arms.
I tweaked my arm and shoulder sometime during yesterday's swim with the kids. It happened either when I insisted on doing one length of bad-form-butterfly (is there any other kind for me?) cuz my daughter did a lap of it, or when I insisted on backstroking faster than my daughter while she was wearing fins and I wasn't. See, that's what I get.

Late morning run at Tribble Mill park...toasty warm hi humidity...normal summer is back. 4 miles very pleasant single track trails above the little lake then 3 miles pavement around the bigger lake. One mile was tempo pace...trying to get the feets used to a bit of pavement speed little by little. Total run time about 1 hour 18 minutes. Waited on a Black Snake to cross the trail...it wasn't in any hurry.

Slow 4.37 mile run. The last mile was barefoot and the first bit was in my monos. Took it easy today on the run, just trying to get back into the groove. Wife says I am stressing to much with everything going on between the move, the decision to not finish the program I just started into at school (yes I am finishing the term, just not the program, health reasons), looking for a job, pregnant wife, etc... Maybe this is why my running has kind of gone off kilter a bit the last couple weeks or so.

    I've been quite active today.
Started the day with my row+dips+chins cardio. Later in the afternoon I did a 5k fast walk (my feet still hurt)
and then I finnished the day off with a workout (shoulders) in the gym.

6.2 miles tonight. I ran one loop of the two lap Groomsport Half Marathon course, in preparation for Friday. A reconnaissance run. Tough course! Super hilly! Reasonably barefoot friendly. The country roads are fine, though plenty of cow sh1t! Gotta be careful not to get bunched up in a crowd where I can't see the road and stand in one of those bad boys. Erk! It's be right up over the ankle.
And the hills... the hills... I noticed plenty of up and not a lot of down. Defies physics, but somehow I made it back to the start. Baffled.
The only thing I don't like about the course is the finishing stretch. It is brutally rough. The Tarmac has dropped below the level of the stones set in it, leaving the stones set in there, raised and exposed. Ouch. But it's on the last 200-300 metres and that's where the "crowds" will be, so I'll hopefully be able to grin and bare it. There's no way I'm throwing the Sockwas on in the last 300 metres after running 13 miles barefoot. No way. If I have to hobble across the line I will. Anyway, a good run tonight and looking forward to Friday now.

Ya...life has an annoying way of interfering with running. When I go through super busy, or unusually stressful times, I will actually run a mile here and there throughout my entire day. The downfall to this is that I don't smell too great and have to dive into public bathrooms and take spongebaths and change my clothes, back and forth. But, I don't care, because what's most important is that I get my running/exercise done. Some days, I just don't have time to do it all at once -so that's my plan B.

I am going back to college in October, and starting a month beforehand, I am starting my "practice schedule" -the whole point of which, is that I see how my exercise schedule (plan A) is going to work out, and to just practice exercising around my school schedule.

I always start each day with two tentative times, two tentative places (I don't always work out at my gym - community centers are my back up plans cuz they are cheap and have gyms and pools in one place) and two tentative exercise types, in mind -that way, when my day does not go exactly as planned (which is more often than not) -I STILL manage to get exercise in.

It's all about flexibility, most of which is actually psychological.

Great 5 mile run at 4:45 am, 84 deg., 62% rh... saw some lighting bugs, couple rabbits. Did some occasional flowing!
Got my sights on The Hottest Half (a 1/2 Marathon at Dallas White Rock Lake) 8/25/13 and a 20k in the botanical gardens in Dallas September.
    Still trying to run right
    Still trying to run lite!

I do water-walking once or twice a week to increase the strength in the intrinsic muscles of my feet and ankles and it makes a noticeable difference!

Be careful, my cetaceous sister! I, too, have had to be careful with my shoulders. Fortunately, as a middle-aged office worker, I can take time for proper recovery (AKA excuse for slacking off). As a complex joint, there are so many things that can go wrong with the shoulder. For me, it was realizing that with the proper rotation, the elbows don't go behind the plane of the back. See how his body rotates with each stroke? I have yet to be able to do this cnsistently. Your mileage may vary.

I hear ya on the rotation. I think I've got that down on a day to day, since I'm able to do 6-7 days/wk about 1.5 or so mi freestyle with basically no effects, and that's not counting drills, kicking, pulling, and a half hearted effort at other strokes. If I do a lot of pulling with paddles my arms and back will get tired, but usually not sore in a bad way. But when beating my daughter was involved, I'm sure all form went out the window (pool).
And backstroke is ok for me when I focus, but it still exhausts me, which says I'm not doing it quite right yet. I've seen 6 yr olds do gorgeous butterfly and not get too tired at the end, so there is something wrong there as well.

One thing I am just noticing, however, is that I am suspecting my catch and pull on my non dominant arm (left) is weaker. I basically do high elbow catch on both, but somehow over longer and longer intervals I start to get the feeling the left side is just more lazy. Trying different things to improve my overall catch, but just like with running, one side isn't quite working as hard as it could be.

    ETA:
oh, just looked at mr. lochte doing backstroke. yeah, not consistent on that level of rotation at all unless i'm slow. he looks like such a fish, doesn't he?
