7.7 miles trail. Was warm, in mid 70s. Started late due to morning fog. Good thing that I had my new running cap, which blocked a lot of the sun from my face and neck. Had to keep adjusting it as the trail twists and turns. Bumped into two hikers and exchanged hellos. Would have gone the usual 9 miles but didn't want to end up dehydrated, despite chugging about 0.7L of water beforehand.

22 mile trail run with a meet-up group that specialises in trail running and ultras. This was their shortest run ever!

3 of the 7 of us were in minimalist shoes and one more was in racing flats. Barely a footfall to be heard!

I've got 1.5 whiny children this evening.

Going on one week with no running. Still have heel pain, I'm starting to get nervous. (not to mention cranky)

4, on campus, sloooow (that's ok---been going a lot faster most runs lately)
my pinky toes started going numb in my injinji socks. Guess it was that cold. About 20 and a bit windy.

gotta get outta the 4-a-day rut. I was going to take a day off and do the elliptical at the gym, but it's so hard to exercise indoors. I can put up with it for ST, but lately I dread the elliptical pergatory.

11.5km this morning, it was 22C (72F) at 6am, but expected today around midday 42C (108F), so it was best to get out early !!

2.02 miles in vff's. Did about 45 min of ST (chest and tri's). So glad the gym's lock problem has been fixed. I still managed to lose 3 pounds last week so I am pretty happy about that. Todays run was really slow 12:05 avg pace. My ankle was fine until right near the end when it started bothering me again and I also seemed to have slightly injured my left calf right after that. I think I must have been compensating or something for the ankle pain on the opposite leg.

9.1 miles trail. Made up the few miles that I didn't get in yesterday.

Was kicking myself for forgetting to bring my new cap, and I washed it yesterday, too. However, on my way there, it got cloudy and drizzled a bit. So, I lucked out as it was cloudy for most of the run. Cool and a bit breezy, too. Drizzled a bit at the end, but not bad. (The rain must have caught up to me!)

I don't know how much longer my luck is going to hold out. Soon, it will be the season for searing hot sun of death, and there's no cover on the trail. Might as well enjoy it while I can!

75 minutes on spinning bike yesterday alongside hubby. He really wants me to wait until my feet are bck to normal before I try to run in the cold weather. I'm okay with that, and think it's a good idea, but starting to get a little antsy. Have to drive daughter up the mountain for skiing today, so will be claustrophobic in the lodge all day. Big snow storm for us here yesterday, too. More snow than we are used to.

Man, I haven't run since the Friday before Christmas, and have only cycled twice since then. Slackin'. Part of it I think is the fact that my car has been broken since 30 December and I don't feel motivated to do much of anything until I can fix it, for whatever reason.

Blew off Sunday's run to watch football with the fam. Slept about 4 hours that night.

Monday, nice chest and upper arms st workout. Up to five reps on the dips. I feel like I can totally trust my shoulder now. Slept poorly again, about 5 hours.

Today, did my fairground loops. Warmed up good before heading out, then walked the first .4 mile, stretched again, then ran .6 mile, then stretched some more. Then I took off the smart wool socks and Moc3s for my first BFR since my frostnip mishap just after x-mass. Man, did that feel good. The Moc3s felt like proper running shoes in comparison. After less than a half mile my toes started to feel a little pain though, so I had to cover up again. Very annoying. I guess I'm done for the winter. Or at least another few weeks. Oh well, at least I'm running.

I ran some more, stopping every half mile or so to preventively stretch. Still, after about a mile and a half or two miles I started to feel a little strain on my itb at the right knee, so I walked some, then did a few sub-9mm paced short runs. That seemed to help. I guess I'll go back to that method, which had got me up to close to 7 disjointed miles in December before I got sick. Good new is that I didn't feel any soreness on the left MCL, so perhaps it was the heel-striking on last week's run in my Bare Access that caused it, and perhaps I heel-struck on the original injury in October too. Today I self-consciously landed on my forefoot.

Anyway, I walked the rest of the way to my daughter's Discovery club at her elementary school and picked up her and our neighbor's boy. Had a nice walk back with them in the late afternoon winter darkness, picking up random objects and playing in the snow.

    5.55 total miles, 3.55 mi / 5.7 km running
    34 F / 24 F windchill

Tomorrow I'll do my lower-body strength training, and then try more sub-9mm paced fartleks on Thursday.

10 min warmup + 30 mins on Kettlebells (changed up the routine - went from modified Turkish Get Ups to Full-on Turkish Get Ups which are significantly more difficulter...and slower. Going to see if I can gut it out until next Tuesday without running - hoping that two weeks off will be enough for the calve to glue itself back together or do whatever muscles do when they repair themselves...

Yay! Is this the first time you've ran since the surgery?

No, it's the 3rd...if you want to call it running. I am so out of shape! I run at night, so my poor neighbors don't have to stare at me and wonder if I am in trouble or if I am "trying" to run. sigh.
