Mileage reporting 24th week 2014

    3.6 miles this morning, about 2.3 in Xeros, 1.3 barefoot. Mostly easy with 3x30s strides thrown in as well.

    Finished off 2 big weeks yesterday, so this week is a cutback week

    A quick 5.01 miles in my vff speeds out on the paved/unpaved trails by my house with my baby girl. Snuck up on some deer and what looked to be cotton tail bunnies. I had a fast mile of 8:54 and an average pace of 9:21. Getting better. I also notice my form feels better the faster I go. I am really hoping Saturday morning I can get out by myself before date day with wife without kids so I can see what I am really capable of with a stroller. Really surprised at how much better my vff's are feeling to me lately. Really kinda starting to dig 'em a bit for this non technical trail running, although I did catch a root in the webbing between big toe and pointer toe today that hurt like hell. I started up a hill and didn't even see that sucker as it was just a point that came almost straight up and about an inch high.

    4.03 miles in the rain for me this morning. All asphalt path/concrete sidewalk. Only a couple few small blisters from the slight pushing off I found myself doing...

    On the up side, it was further and faster than I'd been able to run in over 14 months since I'd reinjured my back :)

    sunday: nice long hike at the nature center. shoes, moc3s, cuz my feet are still bruised. 5+ miles. Wonderful.
    a wee weight session in the evening.

    monday; bikeride! bit it cuz I was borrowing a bike and not used to toe clips, and also grace never came easy to me. All bloody on one knee, so swim might be out for a while.
    a wee session playing racquetball with friends and my kids. FUN.
    a wee little hike to set off the evening and discuss life decisions.
    Waiting eagerly for the bruises at the bottoms of my feet to heal so I can once again start doing some more bf trail running!

    I washed the equivalent of 3 SUVs today, AKA as my sailboat that I live on - with a mop and scrub-brush. My obliques are going to kick my butt tomorrow. I will be laying an egg for the next 3 days, so a break from everything but swimming. You're welcome.

    A sudden surge in BFR after having scaled mount North Cape. 10k every other day the last days, 4 runs in all, and already looking forward to my next run the day after tomorrow. I even challenged everyone I know to the 100 pushups challenge -- embarrassingly enough, my not-so-trained brother is beating me... (Our records are still just around 20, though, there's still time to catch him. (Yes, we're weak.)) I'll ride this wave as long as possible.

    Joined the local running club at 5:30am this morning before work for some speed training. Did 8 sets of rotating 400's in my with parteners then some jogging for a finish. Ran in VFF's. Had a good workout.

    Today was my hard running workout for the week. A total of 4.6 miles that had 6 hill repeats done after warming up for about 2.2 miles. They went pretty well, faster than the repeats I had done back in March on the same hill, even though the dewpoint was about 68 degrees this morning. On the other hand, these were run at higher heart rate than back in March, but I suspect that even if I had backed off a bit to where the heart rates would have been the same, I still ran at a faster pace.

    I also suspect that one factor that helped me run these repeats harder is how I've been using the heart rate monitor to keep the easy runs really easy. That's one of the ideas that's appealed to me about using the tool of a heart rate monitor, doing so gives me a good measuring stick to keep the easy runs and the hard stuff hard. It also makes it easier in a sense to run the harder stuff hard because the legs aren't as beat up.

    Saturday last - 4 miles in Lunas. Seem to still have that bruided spot on my left foot. Can't tell if I am re-injuring it, or if it is deep and just gets bothered sometimes, depending on terrain. Made me feel like I didn't want to run Friday, except I DID want to run. When I gave in to the idea of the sandals, all was well.

    There was no trouble dancing barefoot that evening, but the floor was quite smooth. One fellow who comes to see "our" band a lot said to me, "I want some of what you had!" I leaned down conspiratorily and told him, "I had half-marathon training." He leaned away from me in mock panic, but in all seriuosness replied, "Oh, I don't want any of that!"

    Sunday - I finally fit in a swim. 30 minutes non-stop, then 5 mnutes more.

    Monday - Since I am going to try wearing the Lunas for about a week to see if it helps, Husband asked if we could go for a desert run. In summary, the dog did not succeed in engaging with the badger thanks to my hisband, dirt moguls are exhausting, and I only made it 11 miles on the extremely varied terrain, then walked the last 1.5 miles to the car. Total time lnger than half marathon time by about 10 minutes.

    Tuesday - I am on the spin bike now for 60 minutes of a "recovery" ride. Will plan on swimming 30 mnutes this afternoon when it is warmer outside.

    45 minutes on treadmill in luna monos slow and low heart rate for a little over 1000 feet of elevation gain.

    13km/8.1mi today. I am now comfortably running 3 times a week (about 40km/25mi). Next step is to increase to 4 times a week and slowly increase the distance

    Played some tag with my son and we also did several sprints racing each other. Love when playtime is also training.

    15km in the morning (10 on sand, 5 on asphalt)
    15km in the afternoon (10 on sand 5 on asphalt)
    preparing my next race, sunday the 22th : 75 km with at least half of them on sand, it means barefoot

    4.2 miles today, 3.1 of which were barefoot. Stuck in a sticky and soupy air mass right now. It'd be nice to get some drier air back and sun during the afternoons.

    Still pretty tired from my desert run, but ran 8 miles in the Lunas this morning and managed reasonably at my current normal "comfortable" pace. Will try barefoot again Friday or Saturday, as I haven't been feeling that bruise at all the last couple days.

    5.55 miles at avg 10:55 pace in my luna monos. Kept it slow and easy today as my lower legs are a bit sore today from playing tag and racing my son last night. Doing that stuff is always hard on me it seems. Too much high intensity stuff for me. My body just doesnt handle that stuff like it used too.

    Maybe it doesn't, but that doesn't mean you can't get used to it some and in different ways. Don't give up yet! I haven't! :joyful:

    Oh I'm not giving up on playing with my children, it just hurts more and more the older I get. I actually think it's good to stress the body some, just so long as I don't overdo it. Apparently I overdid it last night. I'll be good come tomorrow though.

    5 mile run at 5:00am., 70 deg. f., 78% rh.. Lots of rabbits .
    Felt good to knock off some of the tightness from the 1/2 I did last Sunday.
