HI ALL - sorry I dont have any meet-ups planned for DEC or JAN. This is my first barefoot winter and Im honestly happy so far with my 3.25 sub freezing miles I put in skin to asphalt. I generally run on the Farmington River Trail usually between 10a-3pm.
Hey guys. Not many miles this winter for me. I did 2.0 bf on the rubberized HS track on Black Friday, and I felt like it was hard on my feet. Then I walked 100ft to my chicken coop and back that night and the frost was really much more painful. Since then, I did a 6.0 mile run wearing minimalist neoprene socks called NUFOOT. Worked fine, but I put them in their graves with that run. I did that run on Dec 5, Day of the Ninja, so I obviously wore a ninja mask while running. http://m.wikihow.com/Make-a-Ninja-Mask-out-of-a-T-Shirt Since then, I don't know about any more barefoot miles this season. I thought it would be cool to run on snow, but it melted pretty fast underfoot. I'm also streaking this season.
I think it's awesome you have a chicken coop! Seems like a lot of people are doing this lately, or I'm just around people that have their own chicken coops. I have been barely running this December, I picked up a part-time just for the month of December so time is limited. I'm okay with it, every year like clock work my body goes into this rest period in December, I start picking things back up again in January. Winter is just a bummer
There was a race I did a couple years ago in January in Wilbraham MA which was a one mile'r. Fargin cold @7F. Not sure if they're having it this year. I'm planning on the Holyoke St Pat's (10k), it will probably be my 1st of 2014. It's a great race with spectators lining the whole route.
Hey Toad, its a pretty festive day - that Holyoke Parade. I used to work at Mercy Hospital in Springfield and live in Agawam. Most years its a warm spring day. If its sunny, could be perfect time to come out of hibernation.
I got the news on Friday I have a stress fracture of my first metatarsal on my left foot... apparently that's weird thing to get I want to use the opportunity to begin the transition to barefoot running that I promised myself I would do last year. I have a new treadmill coming to my house so I won't have to deal with the gym yelling at me about being barefoot. Anyone have good tips considering it's below zero and snowy here in lovely Connecticut? I need to re-read Ken Bob's book too.
