2015 International Barefoot Running Day - Georgia (IBRD)

Run/Walk: Come join us to celebrate 2015 International Barefoot Running Day on Sunday, May 3, at 9:30 a.m.! We will have a run/walk of varying distances (3 miles to 5 miles, add two miles if you would like to additionally climb and descend the mountain side, but not required, although loads of fun!). We can hit the trails and/or run on the pavement (asphalt/concrete); all of it is barefoot-friendly! Min-shod runners are just as welcome!

Parking: $15, so consider carpooling with others or come alone.

    Driving Directions: http://www.stonemountainpark.com/directions.aspx

GPS Navigation Systems: 1000 Robert E. Lee Blvd., Stone Mountain, GA 30083. Alternative address: U.S. Highway 78, East, Exit 8, Stone Mountain, GA 30087

    In Park Directions:
    • To Walk Up Trails from East Gate

Enter the East Gate and follow Jefferson Davis Drive straight. After you cross over Stone Mountain Lake, the road will fork. Follow the road to the right onto Robert E. Lee Blvd. Continue straight past the West Gate Entrance and the parking lot for the Walk-Up Trail will be on the left.
More Info: We're meeting at Confederate Hall, there are drinking fountains and bathrooms at the start...see the link to the Complete Trails Map. It shows all of the trails we can do, and it shows where the Walk-Up Trail Head is (at the beginning of the yellow line): http://www.thebarefootrunners.org/misc/stonemountainpark-completetrailmap.pdf

Nice meetup today with Micsa, NSpollard from the BRS and Aaron a local Luna sandal/barefoot ultra-marathon runner who stopped by to run with us. It was a very nice Spring morning sunny 65-70F, we did a 5 mile pavement lap around Stone Mountain together than Aaron and I did another 4.75 mile lap on the Cherokee trail.

Talked to a couple running ladies and one guy that had tried barefooting a little and asked us some questions about adjusting to barefoot...that's more interest than I usually see.

Pretty good running day all around!

Well, I couldn't make it to Stone Mountain but I did get over to nearby Old Rope Mill Park and shot this video.
