vLast summer I started barefooting and bought a pair of minimalist thong sandals. But could not get used to the thong between my toes. So I started to google for a pair of minimalist sandals with teva-like straps on. And I couldn't find any so I made my own.

They worked fine but it turned out that they were a bit to short on the heal and the front straps a bit to far back. So now I'm making sandals 2.0. Anybody ells making your own sandals. I'm using 3mm leather, 4mm Vibram cherry soles and 10mm straps.

Very nice looking sandals! Are they stable on your feet or do they shift around as you run?

I'll post pic of my collection later...

I've made a few of my own sandals. It really is an experiment until you find what works well for you. I like your lacing method. My best sandals always seem to be the basic ones that I am wearing in my avatar with a traditional tying method.

Yes, they are stable on the feet, but since the front straps are a bit to far back the front sometimes flaps and when I don't lift my feet enough they have folded double under the foot. Thats why I need to place the forward strap more forward on my next try.

Nice..... I'm in the process of having a pair of handmade moccasins made. I may have to give the sandal making a go at some point too.

Looking good. Soon, you too will have your own running sandals company. :)

I'm also planning to make a pair of moccasins. The sole part will be made of a Kevlar fabric, and I will spray it with a transparent spray-on rubber. But thats for my next project. The sandals must be finished first.

I would like to see pictures of these mocs when you make them. Sound very interesting and I have toyed around with the idea of making mocs for myself.

OK, probably a month or two away. When I think about a moccasin I have trouble with the heel part. How do I make a heel with as few seams as possible. If I make the seems on the outside, how do I keep them from being worn down. If I make them on the inside, how do I keep them from causing me discomfort?

    Anybody made moccasins?

I tried that Kevlar-type stuff on the bottoms of some socks once, okay twice. It was a huge mess, both times. :sour:

A huge mess to work with or just a fluffybunny material? Didn't it hold? I will spray it with some spray on rubber like plastic.

Those look great. It looks like you came up with a design that's somewhat similar to the Unshoes Pah Tempe.

Yes, a bit like those, bit I didn't want that wide straps.

On my 2.0 sandals I'm trying to draw the straps without any seams like the hurahaches but the heelband keeps falling off. About to give it up. I will post a picture of it tonight.

Those Look good. I"ve made a few pair out of cheap flip-flops. None which I am in love with. They are a work in progress. Did you get the soles from one of the d-i-y sandal company kits or e-bay?

The Vibram Cherry sole on ebay and the leather locally here in Sweden and the straps from extrem.de (or something like that)
