Local Barefoot Legend on National TV

Local barefoot legend Lynne Allbutt did an excellent job of promoting barefoot running and hiking on BBC Wales today.

Well done Lynne!

I was rather disappointed. It seemed every time they switched scenes, she'd put shoes back on (those chain-mail things you all might be familiar with). The first time was on a path that Lynne said had some holly leaves and thorns. I've walked on both before, and they really aren't that much of a challenge. It seemed to me as if she kept coming up with excuses to be shod.

My usual attitude is to keep coming up with excuses to be barefoot and making the adjustments in order to do so.

And when I do (very rarely) have to put on footwear, I take them off at the first opportunity.

I think 95% of the video had Lynne shod. And the "Walking Weatherman" was barefoot on a few grassy stretches.

Like I said, a disappointment to me.

Many thanks Ahcuah.
I thought it made all the relevant points to ensure that beginners don't hurt themselves.

Geez, I hate to be the curmudgeon here.

I realize that Lynne said she'd only been doing the barefoot thing for 3 years. But I would have done that entire hike barefoot. I didn't see anything I couldn't have handled after my first three years of barefoot hiking. But if you are overly concerned, then you never really realize what you can really do.

Sure, for the reporter (weatherman), yes, you point out the stuff that might be a problem for a tenderfoot, and let them shoe up. I've escorted reporters before, many times. I stay barefoot, and have them shod up for the stuff they probably can't handle. And I tried to make sure they didn't overdo it.

This just seemed way overly cautious, and the message it conveyed is that barefooting is only for grass.

Again, sorry to be the downer on the video. It did show that people probably can go barefoot more than they originally thought, but the reality is that they can go barefoot way more than they originally thought.

When the sun shines in Britain it does look glorious.
As for the chain mail shoes, they are interesting and would certainly be flexible and protective.
I would think that as the walk was being filmed for television that you want to show off the mechanics of going barefoot more than the wobbling around on stony trails.
It is harder to give a walking commentary while concentrating on the ground in front of you.
People would be more willing to give it a go if they see the positives so I have no problem with the chain shoes, far better than heavy hiking boots.
Great to hear that Lynne completed her barefoot run across Wales.

I agree with Chris. I think Lynne did a great job.

It is likely that most people that watched this programme will never even have thought it possible (like Derek the Weatherman) to walk anywhere other than on a beach in bare feet.

Having seen this programme, and seeing Lynne walking barefoot on lots of different surfaces in the countryside and town streets, hopefully some people will give it a try.

Then when they love the experience so much, they will become just like us Ahcuah ;)

I'm afraid of downloading anything else to my computer. Would like to see it though.
