    Hey everyone.

I am stumped. I have had a "knot" in the arch of my left foot for a month now. It is at the back of the arch right next to my heel but not in the heel at all. It hurts occasionally but not when I am running. I ran a ahlf marathon last weekend and it was fine. Mostly walking around in shoes is when it bothers me. Has this been covered here before and I am missing it? I have tried rubbing it out to no avail. Should I get a professional massage?

    Any advice would be welcome.

    Hi Elvisbloom,I would be

    Hi Elvisbloom,

I would be very interested in what responses you get.

Seems like I am having the same issue. It is also in my left foot at the back of the arch right next to my heel but not in the heel at all.

It is the red area on the photo bellow.

It does not hurt when I am running. I can feel it the most when standing still (barefoot) on a hard smooth surface (like vinyl flooring or ceramic tiles). It has been going for a month now. It just comes and goes.

I have been running BF for 16 months now and never had that before so I am stumped too.

    Thanks for the photo

Thanks for the photo Paraganek. Thats where my pain is too! Thankfully I am not the only one going through this, (Although I do not wish it on anyone).

I gave it a long painful rub down the opther day and it seemed to help a bit but the pain is still there. I made an appointment with a podiatrist which I am dreading because I feel:

    A) She will be judgy about barefoot running (although I have no idea that she will)

    B) She will tell me to slow it down or stop running altogether (which is NOT an option)

    C) I will need surgery (which also sucks)

I look forward to Dr. Mark's take on this.

Dr. Mark responded that he will check the posts soon.

Why do you have to tell the podiatrist that you run barefoot?

same spot where i have a

same spot where i have a knot. i know mine is PF. i got it years ago. the pain went away when i started running bf/min but returned when i was forced to wear regular shoes to work. i was wearing kso. the pain is less then it was a few months ago and definitely not nearly as painful when i was first stricken with PF.

i'm just running more now, focusing on form and rolling my foot over a ball. i also pick up the ball with my toes. it all seems to be helping, just not with quick results.

Oh please don't let it be PF.

Oh please don't let it be PF. I dont want top wear padded shoes, not even to walk around in.

I guess for now I will focus on form and ice the sucker.

    thanks for the patience and

thanks for the patience and comments. just getting to inbox after clinc and birthday dinner....45 and getting younger- i wish.

the area in red is where th PF inserts and also an area where some bone spur and calcification can occur. these are not always painful and do not need to be treated.

a tight PF can contribute...see if you can dorsiflex first toe while ankle in dorsiflexion. keep the minimlaist and barefoot going with short soft strides.

without examing and seeing you run hard to tell any more. Nice barefoot shaped feet!

    Hi Elvis,any updates from

    Hi Elvis,

any updates from your podiatrist ?

Just curious to find out more.

My spot has been well under control for the last two weeks, no pain and running is fine.

It really goes away when running and the only time i can actually feel some discomfort in that area is in the morning when getting out of bed.

    Para, Pretty much the same

    Para,

Pretty much the same here. I started wearing sneakers to walk to work instead of my minimilaist Patagonias and that seems to be helping a bunch. I ice it on occassion and rub it also. That seems to help. Like you, it never bothers me when running, but I have been resting and not running for almost a week now (gasp!). BUt I am running a 10k this weekend, so that should be a good test. I ended up skipping the doctor because I figured I could control it myself and that seemed to be a good call. Good luck!
