INTERNATIONAL BAREFOOT RUNNING DAY UK EVENTS – 3rd MAY 2015
    By Paul Beales

BAREFOOT BRIGHTON 5K, Mile & 100m RACES & TRAILBALL GOLF

Sorry for the long delay in getting this report out.

Despite a terrible weather forecast and a very drab and dreary day, it was great to see so many happy faces (and feet) in Hove Park, Brighton for this event.

These races were sponsored and prizes provided by Minimal Sportwear (http://minimal.uk.com/)

Congratulations to all of the prize winners and well done to everyone who took part. It was great to see children running in both bare feet and shoes and to see what will hopefully be sports stars of the future. It was also great to see people kicking off their shoes and having a go.

Whoever it was in the 5K that flung their shoes into the TrailBall tent on the second lap and nearly took my head off – I forgive you! J

    TRAILBALL GOLF

Following the prizegiving for the races, and despite the weather, four teams raced over a 1km, six hole course.

    IMG_20150503_122725689.jpg

Most teams consisted of children and a varied selection of slightly taller grown-up children.

The winning team was Tony & Mat from Newbury, who did the course twice, once on their own and once with team addition Jonty.

    IMG_20150503_123503151.jpg

Their time on both runs was 5 minutes. (It was noted that Tony's team had worked out a clever tactic of sending one runner on ahead to wait at the hole for the ball to be kicked to them - a well-known Tarahumara tactic.)

Second place went to Mike, Amit & family from Bournemouth who finished in an excellent time of 6 minutes.

    IMG_20150503_122636928.jpg

Joint third place went to the teams of Lydia, Arthur & 'Uncle' Andrzej, and Team Peter, Tracy & a large gang of kids, with a time of 7 minutes.

    IMG_20150503_123608535.jpg

The winning team received a signed commemorative TrailBall and display stand. (We understand this is now proudly displayed in Wilds Sports shop in Newbury.)

Congratulations to everyone who took part! We hope that the weather will be a little more favourable next time, and we can make the course a little longer.
