How to walk faster?

Yah, for me, I would say I walk with more of a heel strike with shoes. Barefoot, it's a softer landing. On rough surfaces barefoot, it's flat or midfoot, kind of reaching.

You doing this Abide?
Do we have any barefoot race-walkers among us?

----
I know there are a few competition legal barefoot race walkers in the USA that have posted in the yahoo group for race walkers, but not many. I am barefoot running - up to 6kms at the moment - and then I wet wipe my soles & slip on running flats to race walk the rest of my training for marathons. I don't think (well, at least yet) that true race walking and bare footing are a good fit. Bare footing is natural and race walking is a track & field discipline like hurdles or steeple chase, not natural - you are moving in the most efficient legal way to win the event. It might be possible to racewalk fast barefoot on a squishy track race on a rubber surface, but probably not in a route race on asphalt. Also, you racewalk with your arms and core and I am not sure the biomechanics can match well with bare footing.
