So, I went into Home Goods yesterday with my two boys, 15 and 11. My oldest and I were wearing flip-flops. My youngest was barefoot, as usual, always refusing to wear shoes in stores. He's a barefooter. What can I say? Depending on your perspective, I've either taught him well, or I'm a bad mom. Ha.

We were met at the front entrance by the manager who says...

Her: Uh, he should be wearing shoes in order to shop here.

Me: There's no law that says being barefoot is illegal.

Her: Oh, I know, it's just that we 'recommend' it...in case there is broken glass on the floor.

Me: Good to know. He'll be fine.

We proceeded to enter, and she walked away.

Now, if she had pressed the issue, I was ready to tell her, "So, if he reaches for a glass item on the shelf, and it's cracked or broken, he could cut his hands. Are you going to require him to wear gloves too?"

The point is, stores have to keep their shelves and floors clean of things that could harm their customers.

For a manager, she handled the situation well: advised the customer of their concerns only.
