Wow, the South African Chapter just doubled its membership!
Hi, Guys. Any objections if I join in. At least we are three now. I am afraid it is hard to convince others.I am the only "nut head" in the North West running with Vibram Five Fingers and only gets strange looks and people wispering behind their hands.
I guess between Gauteng, Western Cape and North West, we cover quite a bit of the country. Happy running!
Great to have another member. I've seen 3 people in Gauteng running in Vibrams, they run alot faster than me so I haven't had a chance to talk to them. Enjoy your running thru' December.
Is anyone doing anything for IBRD on May 1? How about just a get together at the Colgate 15km and 32km run. Maybe make up some T-Shirts and run part of the way together?
Sounds like a good idea!!
But its always such a mission to organise anything!!!!
T-shirts would be a good start!!!
I am truly happy that there are fellow Barefooters in SA!
I am currently researching (Masters)the biomechanicsbarefoot/minimalist running at Stellenbosch University.I am busy making T-shirts to market both barefoot running and my study. I will be running the2 Oceans half in my Vibram Fivefingers, as well as the 1st accent Trail run.
If any of you guysare interseted to get hold of a T-shirt, or know of someone else who will be, give me a shout
There are t-shirts available for IBRD thru' zazzle.com. If we place a large order, there is a small discount but we would have to order soon and even then no guarantee that they would get here in time.
I will be doing the Colgate 32km and would be thrilled to run a portion of it with other barefoot runners. Any of you want to run with a Barefoot Runners Flag?
@she . I have just been in hospital the last two days for a hernia repair. Not sure I will be ready for 32kms by 1 May anymore - maybe will come and do the 15 slowly.
@kurt - study sounds fascinating have you had many runners to collect data from. i have been running in VFFs for about 8 months and have cleared up 25 years of knee problems. Would love to get one of your T-shirts when they ready. Where do we order them?
@she- sound cool but I'm down here in Stellenbosch for the Tokai forrest run
@garth- I am on the look for subjects, will only be doing my testing next year . But there are quite a few barefoot runners down here in the cape thatI am trying to get hold of.
When I have finished with the T-shirts i'l let you know about how to order one!Great to hear about the knee!! Sound so similar to my story, although, I am only 22 years old and have few years of running experience.
@Kurtschutte - you can put me down for a T-shirt or two!!!!!
I will most probably be working at the Colgate!!! But will let you know!! I would love to fly a flag!!!!!
Hi GUys plse pm me ....
MY name is Dave HOtz, ex Cape town. WIll be there from the 20th.
Looking to hook up with other barefooters.
Please feel free to contact me for a run.
ANybody here spoken/met Louis Liebenberg?
Are any of you guys interested in a barefoot run here in Cape Town? Similar to what Barefootsa Dave is doing.
I'm thinking a run at either: Sea Point Promenade (mix of grass, sand and cobbles/stone), Strand beach or Blauwberg beach would be great!? It doesn't have to be at a beach. I'm just considering all the people new to "grown-up barefoot running" that might came along . Not that we need to convert anyone, it would just be good to give an intro to barefoot running.
Depending on the experience level of the runners, it could be anywhere between 1 and 5KMs or even longer.
If you are interested, in Cape Town and know of a suitable place to do the run, please contact me? Once we have a location, we can then put a formal invitation out on facebook or some other media.

I am officially a new member! Great to see that there are many other barefoot runners.
I am still pretty new to barefoot running, although I have been running in VFF's for some time.
Only recently have I made the plunge to completely naked feet and I am loving it.
For now,I try torun every second day barefoot and I am slowly building up my distance andstrengthening my feet.
I am based in Johannesburg (Montgomery Park),do you guys ever join up and run together?
If so, and you are keen for a newbie, I would be happy to join inone day.
Welcome to barefoot running
I'm in Cape Town and would like to get some guys together to have a run.
I've recently met a guy who is bringing the Terra Plana EVOs in to SA. He also completed the training course offered by Terra Plana with Lee Saxby and has offered to do a 30 minute presentation on barefoot running and possibly do some training as well (if treadmill is available).
So all you guys in Cape Town, please contact me so we can get a group together to do a run?
(Are you also doing the Impi Challenge?)

Thanks very much,
That sounds very interesting, I hope the presentation and training goes well.
I have just found out what the Impi challenge is, looks cool.
I see it is coming to Jozi in 2012, so maybe then
I have applied for membership of this chapter. I am a full barefooter in Cape Town (Deep South).I have not seen a single other barefoot runner around here, just a few VFF's.
Hoping to catch sight of Ansie at 2 Oceans who says she is also doing it barefoot.
