In high school, my best friend would put her shoes in her locker every day as soon as we got to school and go all day in her socks. No one noticed because the style of the day was long, bell-bottom type pants and they covered her feet. I wasn't gutsy enough to follow her lead.
One time, we wanted to ride a city bus, but you couldn't be barefoot, so we went to a second hand store, bought a pair of socks each for about 5 or 10 cents, and wore them on the bus.
