I need help diagnoicing a foot related injury. When I wake up in the mornings there is a good bit of pain/stiffness at the top and rear of my heel right where my achilles connects. It only hurts (more like sore) when I try to walk in the morning or have been sitting still for a good while like sitting still and watching a movie. I don't notice it if I try walking on my tip toes and it normally goes away fairly quickly. I also don't feel it if I pick up my whole foot at once. I'm certain it's not related to going barefoot because it only seems to show up when I try to run landing on my forefoot area. The first time I remember this problem showing up was 13 years ago when I had some very crappy shoes that were falling apart. The only time my feet didn't hurt was when I took of my shoes and walked around barefoot at work . Thanks for any help.

Bill,Sounds like classic

Bill,

Sounds like classic Achilles Tendonosis. Causes are similar to Planter Fasciitis and include tight claves and plantar fascia, poor foot control on landing with excessive pronation, a gait where you are not utilizing elastic recoil (to much active push), a “toe-stabbing” barefoot gait, and other causes that are hard to assess on email the training load matters too.

The basic squat on Lee Saxby’s site is great for lower extremity tissue mobility and control

I posted an article on Toe Salad on PF….this is similar approach to Achilles Tendonosis. You can do some progressive heel cord stretching if you are tight in this area, but again you may be just fine in this area….so a good assessment of form , strength, an function/mobility is essential.

Now that I think about it, I

Now that I think about it, I used to take a tai chi class many moons ago and one of the instructors I had commented once that I tend to carry the right side of my body a little bit different than my left and the right foot is where the majority of the trouble is located. Thanks for the links. I'll be checking them out in the next little bit.

You speak highly of the

You speak highly of the squat. Would hindu squats do any better or worse than regular squats? I Used them for a while when I started walking/running. My knees and thighs started hurting probably due to years of relative inactivity then suddenly being asked to do alot more work and the hindu squat was a easy exercise that helped make things quit hurting. Here's a link if you don't know about these squats.
