Hi Folks -

I just saw this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...opper-canyon/2012/04/09/gIQAtSje6S_story.html

While I like this in concept, my more cynical side is leading to mixed emotions about this. While - under the right guidance - this can be a wonderful thing, I think there is a danger of things going horribly wrong if the wrong element takes hold in the foundation.

All this said, I have exactly zero experience with the UM crowd (actually, a little less than zero), so there could be an overarching group ethic that would prevent this from happening.

What about the non-profit foundation Micah himself established to help sustain he Raramuri? http://www.norawas.org/

The articles says, "Leese says the Caballo Blanco Foundation will focus on True’s support for the indigenous Tarahumara of Mexico, their running traditions and the annual 50-mile-plus ultra-marathon through Copper Canyon." Apparently, Caballo's original fund is set up to directly fund the Raramuri Tarahumara, so now there's a second one? If this new foundation is established to keep the ultra going each year, then why do they need any money? The way I understand it, Caballo didn't charge anyone an entry fee to run, since he felt "running should be free." They do accept donations from the participants, however, and those donations went to the Tarahumara people directly. So why another fund?
