    Hello All,
Who wants to participate in a free barefoot relay across Portland?

    ALL ARE WELCOME!

Some of you have heard discussions of this event for sometime, but I wanted to make a formal announcement: The first annual Tabor2Crest will take place on Sunday July 7th, starting at 9:00 AM. It will go from the hightest point on the Portland's eastside (Mt. Tabor), through the heart of the city, to the highest point on the westside (Council Crest). It is free and open to all and will hopefully be a cool way for citizens to connect not only with eachother, but directly with the city itself.

Sticking with the inclusive nature it will be a 'bare as you dare' run/walk, though I exptect many/most people will doing it at least partially barefoot, but are aways encouraged to carry footwear on unfamiliar territory/environments, of if they feel unsafe.

The course is about 9.5 miles long with lots of elevation loss and gain (~700 down and 1100 up) and almost exactly three 5K's in this event: 1 downhill, 1 mostly flat, 1 steeply up. Particpants can choose to do any length that they choose, from a 1/4 mile walk, to a 5K, to running the entire length. They will be placed on teams pieced together to cover the distance. Participants/Teams will be responsible for their own safety, navigation, transportation, water, etc. Participants will just be citizens who happen to be crossing the city at the same time, by their own choice. There will be no outside ammenities/support.

FELLOW HOOD TO COASTERS: This seems to have the makings of a great training run and I would think most of you would want to particpate. A 9.3 miler (or part of it) 6 weeks out might not be a bad test to see where we are at. Remember Jen and Christy said we ALL havt to do hill work!

The current map is below, though some small changes will be finalized.

People from the Minimalist Monday group will be participating as well.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED (non BRS'ers can email me):

    Reply to this thread with:

    1) The distance you want try: (1/4 mile - entire 9.5 miles)
    2) Whether you plan try: running, walking, or 'flexitarian' (run & walk)

    3) If you have any preferred teamates/partners
    4) If you have any preferred terrain/elevation

    Example Reply:

    1) 3 miles
    2) flexitarian
    3) Nope
    4) Pavement

There are no guarantees for terrain and teamates as we will first try to place everyone, but will try to accomodate.

There will be a post race gathering/celebration TBA.

    Ready, Set....

In light of the fact I'm doing my longest trail race/run, the day before this...I guess this will be a recovery run! Lol!

I would love to run with people in a team, otherwise I will do the following:

    3 miles
    running
    flat

Definitely not up to doing the whole thing like I hoped, but 3 miles or so (hopefully) sounds alright, preferably soft uneven ground. Running of course!

    Todd here:

    1) Whole enchilada. (9.5+....I get lost sometimes)
    2) Running/dancing/avoiding rocks and fallen trees over ravines.
    4) Bring it on! (I can run up, down, forward and backward)

I plan on high fiving each and every spectator and aid station volunteer; whoo hoo!!!..............what, there are no spectators?........no aid stations either!?! How 'bout finisher's medals?.....Wha!?! Well then what will we have?............Alright!!! I am so there for the after-run brewskis!!!! Bring on the brewskis!!! I'm not sure I'm OK with Sanatan buying all of the beer for everyone but if that's the way he wants it.............

    Thanks Sanatan!

It's a bit urban for my taste but I might party crash if nobody minds. It sounds like fun. Can't commit though. Got an empty nest this week and on a quest to make it special by getting out more. Further the better. Wonder if I could do 9 miles. hmm...

Oh Sanatan -there is one thing that could prevent me from running and that is heat. And humidity. I get physically ill when both are too high. And I won't really know that til the day of. Weather forecasts being so accurate.
