I posted this over in the 'other' chapter thingy, but thought I'd put it here to. Here's the original posting:

    Hey folks,

There's a 'Fat Ass' marathon coming up. I guess 'Fat Ass' designate 'free', and this will be my first, but basically it's just a bunch of people getting together of their own accord to run a marathon. It's in Brighton, north of Ann Arbor. And, it's a trail marathon.

I'm going, and I wondered if there might be some more BFers/minimalisters who would be interested? I just love the idea that it's a bunch of running wierdos who just want to run together.

(Btw there's also one set for January 1st)

    Here's the address:

    Island Lake State Recreatio…
    13680 Grand River Rd

    Brighton, MI 48116

And here's the FB info, with link:

Start area will be at the Riverbend pavillion - quick access to jump right onto the blue loop and the yellow. Totally up to you on the distance and loops you would like run!
Pot luck style - bring some goodies to share!

I'll be there! The RUTsters (Running Fit Ultra Team) are a great bunch of people. Lots of good food, too. :)

dang- makes me wish I wasn't on the injured list.. might be back to running in a few days, miht not... (shoulder/neck injury, not allowed to run until its healed due to risk of permanent nerve damage).. thats close to home, but I haven't run in 3 weeks at all between some family stuff and this injury.

well, I guess there are short cuts on the course, so you could run even less than a half marathon if you wanted.

I might be attending. Just depends because the night before I will be celebrating either my entry into Western States, or the First day of training for the Kettle Moraine 100... And another drink because I didn't get in. So put me down on the list for Maybe...

I've had a terrible cold this week, but will be out there. Not sure if I'll just do a half or not at this point. And, I'll be trying out my new Merrell minimalist shoes. Not quite sure on them.

Weather is supposed to be good though!

That makes at least three of us, maybe five. Can we call this a meet up? Anyone willing to take some pics? Look for me, I'll be the dude with the ponytail coughing a lot.

    You're a trooper! Haha.
Sure we'll call it a meetup, I can't do a write up tho. I will be in a green fleece, black pants, KSO's, and a hunters orange hat

Dude! I missed you! Didn't see this message until now. The only one I saw was Jocelyn. We all gotta get better about meeting up at these larger events, like have a flag or banner to stand by.

It was fun. 91 people! I think most did the half portion, but I powered through to do two loops, while some strong souls did an extra little loop to make it a 50K.

Cold at first, but turned into a good sunny day. I totally lost power in the last three miles. I've been recovering from a cold, and my stomach felt funky. The water they used was a little odd too. But, also, must take resposibility for not being in the shape I'd like.

Anyways, there's another one in the same area on New Year's Day, January 1st. Who's in?

Count me in for a half, unless it is raining or something like that.

Nice seeing you there! Bob and I were behind you for a bit before I bit it on the trail. I seem to be falling a lot this Fall/Winter! What shoes were you wearing for the trails? I couldn't tell from the back.

I recognized your pony tail and Trail Gloves, I saw you but was too cold to stand outside and talk! Me and my running partner (Emily) did 1 loop in 2:17. It was her longest run yet and just a training run for me. It was a really nice trail to run on that morning.

Hey Jocelyn. Yeah, I was just in front of you when you took that spill. Then when you and your running partner finished the first loop, you didn't even stay for food or anything, and then kind of ran off. Do you guys live nearby that place? I was more worried when you didn't even hang out. I assume your ok though?

And yeah, theyr'e my new toys, Merrell 'Trail Gloves'. They served their function: kept me warm and dry.

And yes, it WAS a great trail to run on. I did a write up on it, which will appear on the front page here soon, though it's up on my blog if you want to check it out!

Hopefully see everybody on the New Year's Day one. The way the weather is going lately, I'm only worried about getting rained out. And even then I'd probably do at least a half!

    Cheers,

    John

Hmm, I wonder if you saw Bob and I getting in a couple more miles (we ended up with 16 for the loop.) We ran past the aid station and then back out to finish the 16. I was definitely packing my face with cookies after the miles. :) I'm okay, thanks for asking! I was sort of hoping for a giant mark to show off at a local track meet yesterday, but I barely have a bruise.

I have the Pace Gloves. They're okay and do what yours do - keep my feet warm. My toes get so cold in the winter!

Loved the writeup! I see you met the ever cheerful and chatty Hong. :) She's a hoot.

Hope to see you at the New Years' Day run!
