Oh, I believe you, Ahcuah. I know you're an ardent barefooter/barefoot hiker, so I can image you have a lot of experience with this. It's just that Vaseline is something lots of people have in their cabinets, so that's why I recommended it.

I've taken some pleasure in picking off the dead skin while watching tv. I get a good stretch reaching for my feet and the dog gets a snack! Win, win!

    True.

Flexitol is available at most Walgreens stores. (Oh, and I wish they were paying me to say that!)

I had this problem for a few months recently and it went away when I started using a foot moisturizer with urea. My thought was that all the soaping I do after runs was removing the natural oils or whatever.

Same thinking here. I never really use a soap on my feet. I try to keep the natural oil doing its work on keeping the skin moisturized. When they get muddy and dirty just washing in warm water is enough for me. No heel cracking problems here.

I'm more of a minimalist maintenance, abrasive buff once in awhile guy.

A little buffing using an emery sort of board in the shower keeps the cracks from making me miserable.

I have noticed that there seems to be some seasonal aspect to the appearance of the problem.
