The Giveaway Contests have always had a history of being weak. We took a break from these contests for a bit, but restarting them back up hasn't increased participation. I'm trying to figure out why our Giveaway Contests aren't getting a lot of participation. Please help me out with some feedback. Is it because you aren't interested in minshoes? (There are other types of giveaways too from time-to-time, but it is mostly minimalist footwear.) Is it because you overlook/don't notice or care to read/post in the Gear & Footwear forum? (Which is perfectly fine. It won't hurt my feelings. ) Do you think there is some obligation on your part? (Our Giveaway Contests are free to all BRS members, no cost or risk to you.) Could there be other reasons? Do you have any ideas on how we can increase interest in this area? IMPORTANT! Don't forget... You can also enter the contests for a chance to win an item for your family member, not just yourself. BTW, here's the latest contest. It's a $100 value. I have seen the giveways contents but until recently I was refraining to participate as I thought others would have better use (shoes I was thinking). But later I saw that our participation is important so I am participating more actively. About why shoes, I participate because I do run parts with shoes, specially during winter and despite being minimalist shoes, those shoes are really expensive. The cheapest I have seen are the xeros with good quality/reviews. The prices and offer are really different between countries and I prefer to shop local, so there's even less to chose from.
Hey! I want those shoes! Stop decreasing my chance to win by encouraging other people to enter! I'm notoriously cheap, and "free" happens to be my favorite price, so I definately notice them.
Yep -certainly do! I must confess to feeling a little reserved about entering this one though -purely and simply because I was lucky enough to win the z-trails recently... Just thought if I got lucky twice in a row that might be a little awkward.... But since you ask so nicely I reckon I could put my reservation to one side for a moment...
When I would come here more frequently I would participate. Now that I stop by occasionally, I have stopped checking the giveaways. I should check them and participate. Thanks for the reminder.
Is it because you overlook/don't notice or care to read/post in the Gear & Footwear forum? (Which is perfectly fine. It won't hurt my feelings. ) That's the case with me, I almost never go into the Gear & Footwear forum. If I don't see the Giveaway Contest post in "recent posts" I will miss it for sure.
I appreciate the giveaway contents and have in fact won twice! And I always read the reviews. As a barefoot-as-much-as-possible guy, though, the minshoes really don't interest me. Since I started working from home in March, I have been totally barefoot about 99% of the time. I usually only enter when the giveaway is a minimalist sandal of some type - my last win was the Xero Z-trek sandals which I wore during the winter (see my review! ). But I definitely still pay attention to them - I just don't want to enter to try to win something I would never use. Why waste a $100 pair of shoes on me when I'd never use them? I'll let someone else have a chance!
I go right to "forums" and check this forum and the gear/footwear forum, and any other forums that look interesting. I usually don't look at the front page stuff. I'm here for the discussion. I've been checking the current giveaway thread regularly all day, since I'm planning on winning.
I guess some people have their landing page as the home page where the Front Page/Headline News is posted. Some people have their landing page as the main forum, Barefoot & Minimalist Running. And some people have their landing page as What's New? These people will see the Giveaway Contest threads.
I had a light bulb moment, duh me! IMPORTANT! Don't forget... You can also enter the contests for a chance to win an item for your family member, not just yourself.
Good to know! If I had won the Speed Force shoes today, I was going to ask if I could get the size for my 14 year old son, and have him do the review. He's in the summer training program for HS Cross Country, so he'll put a lot more miles on them than I would be. Our DIY sandal kits will be here Friday - he's psyched to run in them.
That's a good point which I certainly hadn't considered. My partner runs in VFFs & so may well like to try some alternative minimals...
I generally land on the front page, scroll down the top articles & then look at 'What's new' -then go from there depending on what catches my eye...
I haven't been checking this site as much as I was previously, but I will try and make more of an effort to stop by. I generally head to the home page, then check out what's new. I will try and check out the giveaway page though.
