What started out as a sunny day in the 40s turned overcast and windy as our faithful group of barefooters descended on Lake Nokomis on Sunday, December 11th for another fantastic group run. A total of ten runners showed up at various stages of the run for a great time. Pictured above are BRS members Chris Phelan, Garrett Barthome, Matt Fiereck, Charlene D'Cruz, Skylamian Alcyone, Christian Peterson (with dog Brett), Cyndi Scherzer, and Kate Gallagher. Lyle Lange was our skilled photographer for this picture, and joined us for a short while. Shem Onegra and his dog Kona joined us for the last 2 miles of the run. We started out a little faster than normal, turning in around 9:30 min/miles. This caused the group to spread out quickly. Probably because the winds off of the north side of Nokomis were brutal. Most folks opted for some sort of minimal shoe, although the ground was warm enough for bare feet. Skylamian was our lone barefooter, and said that aside from all the sand on the trail, conditions were pleasant. Most folks in the group opted for 5-6 miles (two loops around the lake), while a handful retired after one loop (possibly to the nearby 5-8 Club for a Jucy Lucy....smart people!). I believe Chris went for a total of 10 miles. Good work Chris! We love meeting new people at these events, so don't be shy! It's a great place to talk to other barefoot runners, meet new friends, and get some good form and gear tips. We keep it going all through the winter, so we hope to see you in January!
