I think she should too.
Wait till you see this,TJ. On Flotrack's Instagram page today, they are having a little fun at her expense.Matt Lunsford of USA Today Sports happened to take a picture of Thuli with her left hand up in the air.Turns out she almost stepped her bare foot into a hole on the course and she almost fell down. The line was as follows: Raise your hand if you raced this weekend with no shoes. Pretty funny,I would say. What do you think?(BTW, Flotrack Instagram,if you want to see these 2 pics of her,is at the following: @flotrack . Have to swipe across to see 2nd pic.)
At least her being barefoot got noticed on a larger scale.
You can post the pictures here too. It would make it more convenient for me, at least.
I'm in the process of putting the photos on the Facebook page right now.
Here too would be nice, if you don't mind.
Can't get photos to upload.Device won't allow me to do so!
TJ, I just posted on the Facebook page about an article on the Flotrack website about Coastal Carolina barefoot runner Annie Bothma and her fight to champion the cause against the disease hypopituatism. It's a disease that Annie has. It is an eating disorder, something that has affected her the last few years. It is an article that you must read to really understand what she has been through in regard to her relative low weight.
Coincidentally, I saw that article and shared it here.
Jeremy Johnson was pretty darn good. Ran back in 2007-2010. Good article here: http://naturalrunningcenter.com/2012/08/20/faster-barefoot-runner-america-jeremy-johnson/
BB, did you see this?:
Kellen Waters yet again got the win, clearing 16:10, while Dmitri Angell came in second in this race at 17:02. Angell is a full believer in the barefoot running movement, tackling most of this year’s races without running shoes.
This is the barefoot runner, Dmitri Angell. Notice he has a nice flow, no heel-striking or pounding going on there:
Now, this is a different runner who is clearly heel-striking and most likely causing damage to their body:
Ipswich boys cross-country team resets for CAL Open, state meets
Wicked Local Ipswich
From there, it's on to the state meet season, where the Tigers get to run ... Angell is a full believer in the barefoot running movement, tackling most of ...
I always thought that running barefoot in high school was not permitted, although I personally think that the rule should be changed nationwide.Running in bare feet in high school cross country should be allowed.Pretty awesome to see that someone in high school is competing barefoot.
From today: Texas Tech's Nokuthula Dlamini finished in 16th place at the Big 12 women's conference meet in,you guessed it TJ,her BARE FEET! Flotrack website streamed the race and they have a photo gallery on the site as well. There are some pics of her & her bare feet there. Will post on the Facebook page soon.
Also from today: Sun Belt Conference meet - Coastal Carolina runner Lisha van Onselen finished in 2nd place in the women's race but tough footing prevented her from being able to run barefoot (ran in shoes instead). Here's one for you, TJ, from same race- South Alabama freshman Nicole van der Merwe competed in (how about this) barefoot-like toe shoes and finished in 12th place.
Don't see too many runners in high school or college competing in toe shoes much anymore.
van der Merwe did tell me via Instagram text message that she will compete in track at South Alabama. She will compete with spikes in indoor track(she indicated that she doesn't want to compete in bare feet indoors), but she will compete in the outdoor track season barefoot!
TJ,I have posted all the photos of Thuli Dlamini's barefoot race at Big 12 meet earlier today on the Facebook page.
It would be great if you could figure out how to post them here. We prefer to promote the BRS first.
My sister ran track barefoot in middle school back in the 80s. I've posted pictures on the site in the past.
Can you post those pics of your sister running barefoot in track?
Here you go: https://www.thebarefootrunners.org/threads/my-sister-ran-like-a-hippy.20133/
Hey TJ, I have a male sighting for you: Central Arizona JC had a runner from South Africa win an individual title over the weekend. His name is Ikageng Gaorekwe and he won the NJCAA Region 1 men's title running barefoot. Found this out through a video posted on his Instagram account. It was his first collegiate race running in his bare feet! There is a post on the BRS Facebook page as well.
