    Berkeley Half Marathon 2019
    By Efrem

I ran it and had fun. I ran it in 1:46, which was a pace of about 8:06 min/mile. That was an ok time for me, but not bad considering my current fitness. I've been running barefoot for about 15 years now but for the last several months I've been run 10 miles a week or less and my runs are about 3-6 miles. However, all of my running is on steep hills and rocky trails around where I live.

The course was moderately hilly for the first 6 miles or so, then mostly flat the rest if the way. I was not wearing a watch so I have no data to show. Physically, other than slightly sore feet I feel great. To me this was my main achievement -- To be able to run this kind of distance on technique alone, without being in top shape.

I would give this course a barefoot-rating of 7/10. It was all on asphalt. Some of the roads were a little rough but no harsh gravel. I saw one other person running barefoot -- an Indian guy. There may have been other barefooters. There were a few people slapping the ground in toe shoes. I could hear them a mile away .

After the race I went to a yoga class.

Nice time! I ran it, too, in 1:57:37, which is a 2 min PR for me. I passed one other barefooter, European descent, so it seems like there were at least four of us.

I think I'll write up a report as well this week.

What? Another BRS member in Oakland? @ Are you aware of the Meetup?

Oakland Barefoot Runners Meetup http://meetu.ps/c/2v22S/t08p8/d on Meetup

Usually there are only two or three of us but we've been meeting once a month for years.

Right on! Unfortunately, I moved to Santa Cruz in 2014, because of work. I really liked Oakland though, I lived in Rockridge.

I'll join the Bay Area Barefoot Runners Club on Strava.

    Well done Efrem,
Maybe that is a testament that just running gently with correct form enables you to cover that distance without months of training and longer distances. I've not tried anything much longer than 12km recently, I guess adding another 9km on wouldn't be that bad. I don't think I could match your time these days though.
    Regards
    Neil
