I am wanting to put together a map of barefoot running instructors around the world. Yea, I know, one more thing on my BRS plate, but I think this would be a very helpful resource for those looking for one-on-one instruction. If you know of any competent barefoot running instructors, preferrably those who have done this before, please list them in this thread. Thanks.

Anywhere around the world, who do you know?

    So far I'm thinking:

    Ken Bob (OF COURSE)

Jason Robillard (If he should ever settle down)

    Owen McCall, Chicago, Illinois

Michael Sandler (If he should ever settle down)

Ted (If he should ever settle down)

    Does Christopher McDougall give instruction?

I do remember the clip of Chris running barefoot with a reporter...

    Can we name ourselves?

Can we name ourselves? Teaching people to run is what I do for a living and have done so for 15 years...just wondering.

    I can do the first

I can do the first lesson:

"...now take off your shoes and just stand there feeling the earth and your toes and No! Don't move! You don't want to do too much too soon! that's it...just experience the feel of your soles on the ground...Okay. That's all see ya tomorrow!..."

After that they're on their own.

Hi TJ,A few months ago I

    Hi TJ,

A few months ago I posted something about a project I was doing about barefoot running and Pilates. I disappeared for a while to get moving on the project. Now I'm back. Here it is.

I'm starting Pilates-based conditioning workshops for barefoot and minimal running with the focus on building strength and range of motion. The goal is for proper form to happen before feet hit the pavement or the trail. The classes will most likely take place in mid-fall in San Francisco.

He also has some impressive race results. Not that speed is everything, but when you see his improvement over the last few years, it gives him a little more credibility.

    I know Scott does injury

I know Scott does injury prevention clinics for sure. I think he may be doing a BFR clinic in grand rapids soon, but I'm not sure if he's the one teaching it (although it seems likely).

Wait a minute.  I am Barefoot

Wait a minute. I am Barefoot Josh. Of course I like to think that I'm defined by more than my bare feet but come on, who is the BRS's real Barefoot Josh?

Joshin' aside, how do you go about qualifying to be a BF instructor? I have learned a lot about instruction through holding group runs and have learned most importantly that I'm no longer going to hold back what I think about people's form. Two of our members that were serious shod runners tried to transition to BF (one minimalist and the other bf/minimalist) and came down with TOFP. I held back in saying to them that they were both running way up on their toes and boom, TOFP set in.

It showed me that although good form is intuitive to some, it's not to everybody. I think (or KNOW) before I would have scorned the idea of BF instruction but not anymore.

I am coaching these days.  I

I am coaching these days. I am in the process of certification through VIVOBAREFOOTs program with Lee Saxby who is located in London and also mentioned in Born to Run. Chris approves and welcomed our class to the barefoot team :)

    I am adding Dr. Mark

I am adding Dr. Mark Cucuzella and Steven Shomo to the list as well.

I'm looking for barefoot running instruction, Jennifer, although I will defend and appreciate your method of pre-training, I'm not sure I can add it to the map, just yet, we'll see.

Josh, I suggested to Jason that he develop a Barefoot Running Instructor Curriculum where he can coach others to teach barefoot running. I know he's mega busy these days, but if he (or someone like Ken Bob or Owen) could get this done, I think it would be an invaluable tool and help prevent a lot of injuries and people switching back due to failure. Until we have a certification system for evaulating someone's coaching abilities, there's no way to know in writing who is competent. What I plan to go by is referrals, word-of-mouth, interviews, past experience, and how someone is perceived in the community.

Hmmmm, a shoe company certifying barefoot running instructors. I don't know what to say to that one, Angie. Let me think on it. Of course, without their involvement, I would put you on the list any day, since I know you are capable and competent and believe you have the right stuff to convey a safe running message. When you say "Chris," which Chris are you speaking of?

    TJ, another name to consider

TJ, another name to consider is Tina Dubois (Toe Girl Tina) from Canmore AB. She like Angie has taken the Vivobarefoot program with Lee Saxby and is teaching clinics in Southern Alberta.
