Okay, so you guys remembered the ugly prom party that took place last year? Well apparently the same girl who hosted it will be having another birthday party for her and this time the theme is pioneer/Little House on the Prairie. Anyways, my question is, were pioneers barefoot back in the old days or not? Just getting some costume ideas.

I don't think so, if they could afford shoes. They may have even hand-made them. At least they're not generally depicted barefoot in pictures (or film). Even Native-Americans are shown wearing moccasins. Maybe you can do a google search and look at images to be sure.

Tom Sawyer is famous for being the barefoot kid, with his friend Huckleberry.
Huckleberry was poor and barefoot the whole year, but Tom wasnt. he was goin barefoot only after school and during the holydays if I remember well

Barefoot kids were celebrated in poetry all along the XIXth century,
Ahcuah made a good job collectinf many of the poems :

When we think of American prairie life, Mississippi doesn't really fit in.
