Last week I lifted something very heavy. The moment I picked it up I realized I lifted with my back and put it down. I didn't feel any pain at the time or the next day. The day after that I went for a slow 12 mile run and felt great afterward. Later that day I went to sit down in a comfy chair and it felt like somebody stabbed me in the lower back. My lower back has hurt since then, although it has improved somewhat. I am still being careful when I go to sit down. I tried going for a short jog today and my back is still quite stiff and uncomfortable.

I know if I go to my doctor the answer wil be NSAID anti-inflammatories. I typically prefer to avoid pills. I was hoping to get some advice on the best course for recovery. Should I be using heat or cold? Would using a roller help?

Thanks in advance.

Find a good local chiropractor. It sounds like you sprained your back. Running will aggravate it nd make you tighter walking a lot can help. Ice for pain will offer some relief. I hope that helps
