I'm all for encouraging meetups around the state and will support this group the best we can. What is surprising to me about this is that both of these guys are members of the BRS Georgia Chapter. I've even run with Scott several months ago. I would have been happy to step down and let them take over the organization of the group runs for the BRS Georgia Chapter if I had known they were interested in this sort of thing. My plate is full as it is, and I welcome the help. Not only that, we don't charge the Meetup.com fee of $140 per year. Our services are free.

Anyone else interested? If so, please email me at BarefootTj@BarefootRunners.org. Thanks.

    Hey TJ,

Thanks for the great work you are doing with the BRS Ga Chapter.

I just posted this in our meetup group:

"For those that are interested in the broader barefoot running community in Georgia, check outhttp://www.barefootrunners.org/. Michael mentioned them in an earlier post. They have tons of resources and runs scheduled all over the state. Our organizers here are intowners, so if you're not psyched about our scheduled runs, you'll likely find some great group runs on their calendar. You may also want to check out the Atlanta Trail Running meetup -- they're mainly shod over there, but don't hold that against them."

I didn't really think about dilution or competition when I started the meetup group. I didn't really think about anything other than running. I was mainly interested in getting my running calendar out in a place that was easy to share with folks who might be interested. Running with BarefootNYC last Saturday inspired me, and so I set up the Meetup while on the flight back home.Scott joined in (he's a good buddy for many years), and then a couple other folks hopped on the train.

I was sad to miss the Lullwater run a couple months ago. I can't remember what sabotaged me, but it was something like a sick spouse or child. Whenever y'all have in-town runs, I'll try to join and encourage my pals to join. I'm training for a big trail run in the fall, so I will likely join up with y'all for some of your great runs OTP in the not distant future.

That sounds wonderful, Geoff, and like Isaid, we would like to support other groups as well. That's what our sense of community is all about. I was serious about needing help though. If anyone out there would like to be a BRSGeorgia Chapter President, please let me know. You can reside anywhere in the state; you don't have to be in the Metro Atlanta Area, although I sure could use some help in Atlanta as well.

With that being said, I recently sent an email to all Georgia BRS members asking for city location and running location preferences. I've heard back from some of you. I'm still hoping to hear back from more of you. If you check out the temporary Google map, I've added to our Chapter's home page, you will see where many of our members reside. I'm trying to schedule runs in those areas that would be more convenient to most members. Inside the Perimeter is looking best, so we may even converge upon the Barefoot Runners in Atlanta Meetup group at some time. ;-)
