This Sunday morning all three of us (Emmett (16) Rowan (14) and I) are signed up to run a 5k Trail Run. It will be my son's first race. I am reasonably sure that both he and his sister will run faster than I will. Sigh...
Results: Emmett ran his first 5K in 25:10. I ran 29:06. Rowan ran her first 5K 30:36. More important to me, both of them had a great time and Rowan wants to run another race on the 22nd. Emmett said he'd rather just help out with the finish line work.
One more update... Last Saturday I ran in a 5K with my daughter Rowan. Emmett, my son didn't feel like running so he helped as a course marshal. Rowan ran with me, at my elbow most of the way, until she surged past me in the chute to take 1st in her age group. (Fortunately, the 10 year old girl who finished 3rd woman overall in under 19 minutes (running at her Dad's elbow, too) got her own award first.) I suspect she'll be leaving me in her dust very soon, and maybe giving her brother a challenge in time.
Still awesome for one to run with their kids. The last time I ran a 10k with my daughter she blamed me for a sore neck as she was forever looking behind her to see where dad was. Now when we run we wish ourselves luck and away we go. It usually ends with my kids waiting at finish line for dad.
