Welcome to the Florida - Tampa Chapter of the Barefoot Runners Society!
I'm excited and privileged to have a Barefoot Runners Society Chapter in lovely Tampa, FL! As all who live here know, this is great city and a part of the country where a person can go barefoot pretty much year round.
As the Tampa Chapter continues I want to offer a vision of service to our community. The mass media news is very good at giving a view of barefoot running that is either too rosy or portrays it as something normal people can't do. Those of us that have been barefoot running for a while realize neither extreme tells the real story and that people from all walks of life can take up a more natural, less harmful style of running. We should be an example to runners and non-runners alike that there is nothing mysterious about barefoot running. Anyone that has the desire can learn and enjoy getting back in touch with their feet again.
I also want to offer a vision of camaraderie. We should celebrate our return to a natural way of moving, together when possible, because it's a bond we share that most of the rest of the population doesn't understand, at least not yet. Whether it's the monthly run, manning a BRS booth at a local race, or a meet-up in a local pub for dinner, let's rejoice in what we've rediscovered about our bodies and the fun natural movement brings.
Whether you live in Tampa, Brandon, Clearwater, Saint Pete or elsewhere in the larger metropolitan area, this is your chapter and will be shaped by your involvement and ongoing commitment to natural movement.
Let us begin.
